This update is a freakin' thing of beauty!!... great new features and tweaks!

And if any of you numerous "guests" that I keep seeing in this OctaneLW thread are
debating getting this plug (and/or standalone), you are missing out on quite a lot...
and will be doing yourself a major disservice if you do not snag it at this beta price -
but even at full price (and beyond) this is some of the best money you will likely spend
any time soon.

Edit: Like many of you, I have quite a stash of HDRI's - both free and commercial...
but many times have found myself making do with "close enough"... never again...

I just made a custom spherical map in under one hour - a cul de sac with 4 nice
houses, instanced grass and many trees - and was able to tailor this to exactly
what I needed... I swear - this is like a m-f-ing dream come true... I shit you not -
this almost brings a tear to my eye.

OK, I'm lost. I'm doing glass, and I want to be able to make it more reflective at steeper angles of incidence (or less reflective straight on). I was sure I saw this as a feature, but buggered if I can find it. I was thinking it was just a setting like index in the glossy material. Help!

Falloff texture ;)

Edit: Oops.. I'm sorry bro. This is what it says on page 1 in features:

- Added architectural glass as option "fake_shadows" in the specular material node

I myself have not had a chance to take this for a spin yet... but perhaps this is
what you were looking for...

Ok, I'll take a look at that. But did I imagine this as part of the architectural glass setting? I remember two images of building , one with and one without, and the glass that was more face on, was less reflective, or more transparent.

Hello, I am posting in this thread, because I can not post in the licensed customers thread yet.

My question is directed towards juanjgon: From studieng the forum It seems you do a very good job on the plugin for houdini.
Can you confirm that octane 3 and its houdiniplugin will support AMD gpus? Do they work as efficient as the Cudaversion?
And would you advise to buy 2.2 now or wait for the 3.0 version later this month financialwise?

Juanjo is a plug god!... The UberDev!.. Juanjo for president!

It has been stated by Marcus, Goldorak et al, that the pricing will be the same any way you cut it.. buy 2.2, then upgrade.. wait and buy 3.0... all the same.

Yes, at some point Octane 3 will support OpenCL, so it should work in AMD gpus. I don't have details about it's performance using OpenCL yet.

The final version of Octane 3 is not going to be available this month, AFAIK, so you could buy the 2.2 version and play with all the 3.0 alpha/beta builds and later upgrade the license.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Ah, thanks a bunch for the info guys!
So one gets to use those new features of v3 when purchasing v2.2. That sounds quite interesting to me.

About the openCL support: When do you expect it to be released? With the final version of octane 3, or before that, or even later on?
Because if you don`t know about it`s performance yet, I read into that that its development is much less advanced in comparison to the regular version 3.
