thanks for the response.
Neither the material itself nor the texture use special characters but the project-path does. I'll check that and go through the "reporting issues".
I'll mail you the AC15 file with the crashing problem.

I run everything on 64bit, the Plugin is v1.11beta. I'dont know if it is a 3 but I downloaded it yesterday, so i suppose it is the newest.

Will it be possible to get a animation out of Archicad with the saved viewport picture?
In ArchiCad you can "play" the animation in the 3D-Window -with OpenGL turned on it runs nearly in realtime - so if Octane could save its picture
(hold back ArchiCad from jumping to the next frame till the rendering is finished) and repeat that with every frame - that would be perfect !
I can do the process manually frame by frame, so it theoretically only needs to be automated...

Thanks in advance & greetings,
A

It is much easier to create an animation.. just create a flythrough and render it with the plugin.
Hopefully does the printscreen explain enough.

When transfering the geometry from Archicad to Octane I get the error "Texture not Found" with the given name of the Archicad-Material.
The problem: this material has no texture. OK, then I assign a texture (via the Archicad material editor) but the error persists !
By removing the material this error disappears but this is of course not a real solution...
Are there any restricions for textures/filenames/... ?
(In Archicad all needed libraries are loaded and nothing missing of course)

Hi

I suspect your issues are due to special characters in filenames or material names.

There is a thread for reporting issues at http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=29556. It details the information I need - in particular - which version of the plugin are you on? The latest 1.11b-3 addressed some issues with special characters in filenames and material names, which may fix your problem. Also, 32 bit or 64?

If 1.11b3 is crashing on AC15 - would it be possible to send me the scene pls? My email address is paul at physicalc-software.com.

Thanks

Paul

I had the same problem with error "texture not found".
while changing the name AC even crashed,
but I have found where the problem might be: I changed the name by making it shorter and it loaded
After making the material name longer again (_A21_MAQ-GLASINLOOD2-testingtestingtesting) I got the error again,
so.. maybe the material names have a maximum length?
greetings, Jeroen

As Jeroen said, do this by creating a fly-thru. Add two camera paths (View->Navigation Extras->Path Camera Into Path). Then set the photorender to Octane (Document->Creative Imaging->Photorender Settings->Engine=OctaneRender). Start the Octane plugin. For "nearly realtime", set the rendertarget->kernel->maxsamples to something like 20. Then animation via Creative Imaging->Create Flythru->Photorendering.

but I have found where the problem might be: I changed the name by making it shorter and it loaded

I think you are right. I will investigate and post a patch to rectify this.

I have determined to cause for the crash, and am coding a solution now. Pls refer to http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=29556&p=131242 for additional information, and for notification when the fix can be downloaded.

Hi Jeroen, Paul!

At my first try after starting the rendering of the animation the window closed and absloutely nothing happend, so I supposed it is not supported with Octane...
It's the material/texture-thing perhaps. With a absolute new project with only some objects it works of course :-)

Thanks & Greetings,
Artur

Hi BfPuVAK,
Did you get the workflow for making an animation with a absolute new project with only some objects?
If so, that works, right? It should work. in general.

If you get an error by rendering a specific project....
if rendeing just one image works.. I suggest (if you did not ofcourse) that you render your animation by rendering jpgs (frame by frame) and stick them together in video software.
Rendering animation should work if rendering just one image works.
Hope this makes sense :D
greetings, Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

generally I'm familiar with Archicad-rendering, at my first test i just used an unfortunate project.
I also prefer picture as output - you can check if all is OK during the render-process and have no to wait till last frame.

I'm on the way now to fix my texture-names etc. at my first project, it's quite tricky and Octane is finding permanently new
errors

Hi,
Once opened my project file and start the plugin from Document> Creative
Imaging> OctaneRender, you receive the following message on the screen.....

A critical error has occured
Too many materials. This plugin has capacity for
scenes with up to 1000 materials.

Which means, I do not think that there are more than 1000 materials in the file.
someone can give me a solution...........
thanks

Hi tlux. I am away over Easter but when I return I will post a version with a higher material capacity. From memory the 1.02 version will not have this limit (but make sure material names are less than 50 chars).
