Congrats on the change, guys!

You have full support from me as a Blender user and I would gladly pay another 99 euros for a Blender plugin. I really hope you can find a way to work with the GPL license.

I'm Blender user for some years, Autocad user for a long time, and I bought second Octane's license (that I actually don't need) just to 'donate' in Octane development =)

Anyway, integration with Blender will be much more powerful and useful, than with AutoCAD =)
A I also will gladly pay for Blender plugin, but I guess, that there will be problems with Blender builds - for example, I use portable versions only =\

Hi all,

I think it's a good news to have OTOY in the Octane dev ressources ( Paul Debevec  ). My question is, and I hope Radiance can answer me, the next released of Octane will have Cloud computing or not ( I'm talking about next beta released ) ? Cause just only 1500 Vram memory is really few ( with the last nvidia driver only 1200 vram ).

An other question, a real integrated plugin for Blender will be good ( Yoyo plugin is really great but not integrated like in 3dsmax with material ). Little studio (our studio include) think about integrate blender as main application, cause no expensive licences to buy. Also, when it'll be possible to have a real structure scene in RIB with multiple obj call or other in one scene (like plained in dev from start) ? It'll be great to have a baked data animation file directly in Octane ( like Guerilla render, our current render engine ) or to have integrated plugin for application like 3dsmax... In all ways, a real plugins for application like 3dsmax, for maya, blender, softimage and co, or a real scene structure and export all animation data to Octane. I think plugins could be more efficient.

I hope, Radiance, you'll answer me.

In all way Octane is a robust render but not really professional product for now (cause plugins, passes, particles, fur and shadows caster), but few things can do the difference.

Thank in advanced.

Matt

i am not sure what i should think about.
cloud is a buzzword in my eyes at the moment until the whole data safeness, proof of stability and thinks like this are granted. for octane, it would mean you need a new core that runs on cpu's and you would need a lot of them to replace only a few gpu's. i hope this does not mean we have to wait a long time til the next update or the betas.

I have been really looking forward to a dedicated, full-fledged plug-in for Blender. I teach at a college where Maya is mainly used, and while most of my students will be entering a field where expensive software packages are supplied by the studio they work for, I think there is a huge market for Octane in the Blender community. Any independent studio or freelancer is likely not going to have the funds for multiple Maya, Max -- or even Modo -- licenses, whereas Blender is a free alternative. And while the Blender community does have Cycles, it seems that it is still lacking some of the functionality of Octane, as well as the final-quality realism (basing this on online side-by-side renders / comparisons)...which in many cases is a necessity. In a smaller Blender-based studio, I could see Octane being justifiable for each workstation, as it's not prohibitively expensive, whereas Maya and Octane combined would cripple many freelancers / small studios.
Cycles will certainly improve over time, but I also think that Octane would / could / already does / have an existing user base that very likely will grow significantly over time.

I hope this is in some way helpful. I see Blender users in the Octane forums all the time posting, so I know the user base is there. :)

John

Cheers dave

For me this post is not a good sign for the Blender-Exporter:

OTOY should come clear about the possibility of the Blender integrated plugin (make those well payed lawyers produce a simple yes/no answer). If it won't be possible because of licensing, then say so. If it is possible, then make a commitment (reminder: the Blender community is the second largest here == mucho $$$ ;) ).

I hate to be kept in the dark with ifs and maybes and we dont know...

Not sure why the license is a problem here? Sketchup exported is open. Why the blender plugin could not be?
Octane would benefit from the large blender user base.
