btw, as marcus explained a few replies earlier in this post, the 2.48 test release coming out next won't have offline mode yet,
that's for the 2.5 commercial release coming next week.

I have some questions here...

-are you going to bring first 2.48 version (for free) and then later on a 2.5 version (comercial)?

-when is going to be available the 2.48?

-is the 2.48 version using all the power of multi-gpu so no more problems with cuda performance using more than one GPU?

-Do you already have a feature list for 2.5v?

Well I can only say congratulations! soon will be able to see the results of a good desicion. Octane in a fabulous program, I've only done simple tests, as it would be irresponsible to use a beta version for production, but at the time and like many people, it seemed important to support your project, we're a few months to see the engine that will revolutionize the digital world in quality, but above all, speed, and for that reason, congratulations.

i just wonder how the new license sytem will work with dualboot system (linux/win). do i have to active octane for the machine or each time i boot a different os?
atm i can easily switch from linux to win without the need of reentering any lic data if it was done once before.

1. All these releases are betas during the next weeks, and are all pre v1.0 final.

2. the first 2.48 TEST release was released 2 days ago in the customer only release candidates forum. This is a test release though, and is not recommended for production use, it's for advanced community members to help us iron out issues.

3. the 2.48 and all subsequent releases contain our new, rewritten multi-gpu framework and indeed offer linear speedup, eg 4 GPUs gives you 4x the speed over one.

4. 2.5 will be released in a few days and will be the 'finished and tested' 2.48/49.
Eg, it will be identical to 2.48 feature-wise but will be tested and stable to be released in the general licensed customer forums for use by all commercial users.

2.48 test, 2.48b (coming soon) fixes and more testing, etc...
2.5 in a few days, will be the production version of these, finished, tested and ok for production use.

We will be doing a few more releases during the next few months, introducing more features and in 1-2 months we will go final with v1.0.

Use of the offline functionality will be subject to having your octane license activated.
Eg, if you want to use one octanelive license on 2 operating systems in offline mode, you will have to activate/deactivate in the same way as now in between. We can't change this as otherwise the system can be cracked/abused.

If you desire use of octane on 2 or more OS'es or workstations at the same time without activation/deactivation, you will need to use 2 licenses.

Is there a set road map for the upcoming features? If so, could you please shed a little light on what's coming next? Right now I'm particularly interested in the new nodes (especially fresnel/incidence). I would really like to know if they're coming around august to make some decisions about a project in the making.
Thank you for your hard work, good luck with next releases.

Hope 2.5 will suport Fermi under Mac OS Lion :P. I'm about to buy this software. I was using the demo version for some small projects (for testing more) but now I have bigger projects and I need more resolution, the plugins etc. :D I heard that Lion Golden Maser use 270.01 drivers and it can also use GTX 570\580 cards (under hackintosh yet).
