What about this "Out of core textures" thing.. Can you confirm that this will mean that the GPU's VRAM in version 2.0 wouldnt be limiting the sizes of textures used? If so that's great news!

Yes. More info please. Someone explain this in detail. Does this mean that vram woes/worries will be a thing of the past - and we can finally stop debating GPUs based on amounts of VRAM? ;)

Sorry, I do not understand why everybody is so happy to spent money on a upgrade that provides features that are absolute basic for a production render engine.

Unlike other People who earn money through their renders, this is just a fun hobby for me. And your telling me that I have to spent 200$++ just to use additional features is a cash grap. Mind you I love Octane and use it daily, but I still believe that 2.0 should be a free upgrade for existing customers.

you have answered on own question: because with new functionality Octane Render became more competitive with production renderers with price tag ~1000USD

I agree "new functionality" as in something completely new. But hardly any of the new features qualifies as new in my book, especially when I compare the render engines, with 2.0 Octane has reached par with other render engines, nothing else. Displacement was promised a long time ago for instance, now you have to pay for it.

I golf as a hobby. My favorite course charges me $65 for eighteen and a half a cart. I guess I could always go to the blue collar course across town and spend only $27 and deal with the riff-raff and the shoddy clubhouse food... and you could stick with 1.5 if you didn't want to pay for 2.0... Decisions decisions......

What will the price of version 2.0 be?

It is new because you never had all these (standard) features render at the speed of Octane.

So Yes it is new. New and actually groundbreaking. If you want them to continue developing Octane they have to charge for their product. This is not a Hobby for them this is a business.

$200 is more than a fair price for the new features in Octane 2.0.

All this features was promised (and more and more faster speed) from the begining to version 1.0. Then 1.5... now 2.0 with additional price... I`m with octane from first steps of it`s team, but i`m very confused with this news. Was promised 400% speed. Where?

Corona render is in beta and FREE now and it has all this features and more. Yes, its not GPU (but it has minus and pluses) and full functional for commercial viz.

Very sad with Octane team... I hope it will be more good news next time.
