Mega exciting Beppe! Once again though, does it work in the live viewer and make that faster?

And how does VRAM work? If I have 64GB on a mac and 24GB on a 3090 PC what happens?

Hi,
yes sure, it works in Live View too!

About VRAM, obviously you need to keep an eye on scene VRAM consumption, if it is greater than Render-Node VRAM, the Out-of-core option can be activated in Render Node, but render speed contribution goes down.

The mac M1/M2/M3 is the Workstation in Network Rendering, it prepares the scene, starts rendering with internal GPU, and sends the already prepared scene to Render-Nodes.
So the key is to have 10Gbit Ethernet connection/sSwitch or greater, between primary Workstation Mac, and Render-Node machines.
1Gbit Ethernet connection is the minimum, while WiFi connections are not good, there is too much latency.

Btw, there is a little delay in 2024.1 OctaneX version, but it should be ready for the end of this week.

Any word on when DCC’s plugins will be updated to this version too?

Super excited to finally try out network rendering, thanks for giving us a preview of how it runs!

While the alpha is great I'm really looking forward to the C4D plugin once we're in beta phase. Its going to be such a huge help for my job.

Thanks Beppe, along with future optimisation for hardware raytracing on the M3, this is going to be a total game changer for mac users.

Hi,
about the spinning beachball issue after closing Live View, I was finally able to reproduce it!
It happens when RedShift plugin is activated in C4D.
RedShift is now included in C4D from R26, but you need a license to activate it.
We didn't have a license before, so RedShift was installed but not activated, and the issue was impossible to be reproduced.
The devs are looking at it (not an easy fix), but it seems that I have found a workaround.
First of all, please close c4d, then delete the oct.dat file at the following path, the c4doctane preferences will be reset to default, and a new oct.dat file will be created on next c4d start:
/Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Maxon/Maxon Cinema 4D R2X_RANDOM_CODE/prefs/oct.dat

Then you need to load the following Octane.l4d layout at startup, or just after starting, then load the Standard c4d layout, and you should be able to open Live View and close it without the spinning beachball issue.

Does Octane for Apple Silicon work properly on the new macOS Sonoma 14.2? I'm afraid to install since the system update grounded my work for 3 weeks. Let us know.

Hi,
no problems here with macOS Sonoma 14.2.

For c4doctane users, new 2023.1.1 is out with a fix for Live View spinning beachball issue, and other fixes:
