Fusion360

Hi,
I subscribed to the Fusion360 annual license.
It's a promising 3d modeling program, a fusion of several software: Inventor, Tsplines, Alias.

Fusion360 is evolving day by day and Autodesk listen to us to improve all the software aspects.

The embedded rendering engine is not super fast, I think that Octane can be a good option and it can evolve together with Fusion.

What do you think?

regards

I have trouble keeping abreast of all the Autodesk products and where they fit. Perhaps Fusion 360 is the cloud based replacement to merge AutoCAD and Inventor? At the moment there is only a JavaScript API, which would not be sufficient for Octane. The proposed python API may provide access to the scene geometry (but it is not released yet). So in the future, yes, an Octane plugin may be possible. The other question is....is the model is in the cloud, downloading all the geometry to load into Octane may be prohibitively slow.

the model is the cloud but is cached.
There is a temp dir where the files are saved but we need to be on-line.
It exists an offline mode.
There is a Keyshot plugin that creates a bi-directional interface with Fusion360 (afaik it doesn't work with KS 5).

The Keyshot plugin appears to be an exporter rather than an integrated plugin. Because the Fusion 360 API is only JavaScript at the moment, an Octane implementation would need to use the JavaScript implementation to drop the scene geometry to file, would could be picked up by Standalone or a separate (Octane plugin like) app. Have you tried just loading the models into Standalone?

EDIT: The python API is now also available - so that opens up a lot more possibilities.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, I just wanted to add a +1
Fusion seems to be developing extremely fast; it is soon to replace solidworks in my workflow, which is a rather big statement.
A plugin would make our studio very happy.

I have done some work on a Fusion 360 plugin. However the geometry access routines in the API are currently in the process of being migration from the original library to the new library - and the new library does not provide vertex normals of UV's yet. I quiz'ed the Fusion 360 devs, and they said "don't use the old API - wait for us to implement the geometry functions in the new API".

So in summary, I'm waiting...

Fusion 360 has already replaced a couple of software I used to work with and I too would appreciate a plugin very much :)

I like to have a Fusion 360 plugin too.
Please, please give us a Fusion 360 support for Octane!

Hi Paul,

Just wondering if you have any update son Fusion 360 integration. This would be very useful for us. Thx!
