Hi Scott

I reverted back to the previous OctaneRenderForInventor.AddIn file, and it worked - so there must have been some corrupt XML in the latest version. I have rebuilt and re-uploaded the installer - so can you pls re-download and re-install. I suggest uninstalling the previous version first so you are starting fresh.

My apologies for the issues you've had.

That's ok, it's running in Inventor 2015 now. I wonder if the introduction of T-Splines in 2015 allows you to enable some more of the Octane 2.0 features?

I will be interested to see how the Inventor API presents Freeform bodies to the Octane plugin. It might already be rounded, or need subdivision in Octane. I should have Inventor 2015 in the next 24hrs, so will take a look.

Inventor 2015 t-splines are automatically support by the Octane plugin. Pls see screenshot below (rendering the Infochannel Kernel wireframe to show the triangles created).

Hello,

I've tried to render some models and they don't drop shadows to the ground like in original Inventor's raytrace.
What i'm doing wrong? In your video and sample picture shadows are present.

What lighting are you using? (IBL, Daylight or Emitters?). Also, if your Inventor geometry is very small (ie. millimeters or centimeters) you will most probably need to lower the rayepsilon. If the scene is large, increase ray epsilon. See http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=210 for details. If neither of the above helps, could you pls post some sample renders showing the problem. Oh, and I assume you have some ground geometry to cast the shadows on to?

I didn't made any special ground geometry for rendering and I supposed that this is main problem.
What geometry you have used in sample video with "fork-brace.ipt" for this purposes?

P.S. IBL and Daylight gave the same resoult. Changing the value of rayepsilon only gave more sharpen shadows.

Normally you would enable the Inventor Ground Plane. However I tried this on the latest release, and it looks like because the ground plane is such a large polygon there is a problem with the shadows. I will try to fix this when doing the 2.11.1 build later this week. In the meantime, add some additional geometry for your own ground plane.

Thank you for fast reply!

There are some additional moments:

- The plugin loads all elements of the assembly, regardless of whether they are visible or not in Inventor. And all this elements are shown on OctaneRender viewport.

- For convenience, it would be nice to make the automatic orientation of lightening depending on the orientation of the ground plane or view cube in Inventor.

- I've tried to open few assemblies with more than 100 elements and didn't reach the end of the load scene elements even when I reduced triangular tolerance to 0.1.

- If reopen plugin in same scene, it reloads all assembly again. If you can make some "caching" of geometry that has not being changed during last opening of render, it will save a lot of time to users.

The main advantage of Octane for Inventor is very fast rendering. And all these nuances, especially the long import process, reduce this advantage to a zero.
I hope you take it into account in future updates.

Best regards,
Viacheslav.
