Hello guys. This my WIP for OctaneBench.
First of all i created an object which will be the major part of my scene.
I wanted to make it glass, but noise.... therefor i changed material to the wood. I think it is looks great.
It is not ended work. And now i want to create beter enviroment.

If you have some idea about it or improvements, tell it to me. Thank you.

A few words about the time. In this scene i use hdri and one plane with emission. and render time is 3-4 min on one titan (PT).
I can use only standart sky, and time will be 20 sec for each. But i don't like this result. Is 3-4 min normal for this competition?

The bowl looks very nice (model & texture)! ;)

You can cut back on that rendering time by lowering the max depth (min. 2). That would drastically increase your speed (Ms/sec) at the cost of some quality ... as you most likely know. Still I think it's worth the try ... ;)

Here are some ideas, if you're interested:
1) Keep the camera in the macro view, BUT add something in it for scale perception (ex.: a spoon, some food / fruits / vegetables, an ant ?, etc.). That would do much better justice to OCTANE features (depth of field, lighting) ! (Make sure the OCTANE logo is visible enough to be easily identifiable).
2) The background should be as simple and unobtrusive as possible (ex.: blurry kitchen hdri ?).

All best and keep up the good work :)

hello mate, the modeling and texturing look GREAT.

About the time, don't forget is 30sec rendering time limit in you Titan. So you better use those tips from eidy to reduce time and clear the noise faster.

The model is great.

Cheers

Thanks for your advices. Will try to change something with render time. Hope new enviroment will change it.

By the way all materials from this scene I took in LiveDB.

IDEEA !:

keep the bowl as it is and just a glaze to it to cover that relief that makes up the OCTANE logo. That way you'll also have some transparency, reflections and translucency in your scene.
No, I didn't forget about the speed issues. Just lower your max samples to 2, set caustic blur towards maximum and set a bigger ray epsilon (not too big though, carefull ;) ).

That's it,
Bye ;)

Glad to be of help / use, anytime :)
The whole point (which I so "gracefully" forgot to mention there) about that glazing was so that bowl could seem as a real, day-to-day usable item ;)

All best :),

I have made new one image. Of course i tried to use all your tips and tricks and it helped me to reduce my render time to 1 min. Big thanks!
