OctaneBench Competition | Resmas | Hourglass

hello all...
was wondering about the benchtest and how our work its all about time....so i got thinking about a hourglass and what could i do with it.

Things we all have in mind....the time we spend looking to the progress bar ... lol......wainting for that last Sample to be done.

So this is a WIP and i will try to have time to make it happen.
For not its simple, it will stay like this i hope... :D ...but the wow factor should come near the end. ;)

Lets hope i can make it..

Hope you guys enjoy the ideia.

Cheers

This could be a very nice idea if only you could "animate" the sand as the noise clears up :) !

I have worked on a similar concept for may first version (not present in my post). There I've tried to simulate an animated progress bar (while practically rendering a still image) with an absorption based material that gets more luminous as the samples keep adding up and the noise clears (illuminating also the surroundings). Hard to do ... and quite possibly harder to keep it in this contest's constraints : ~ 30 sec / PT / 1000 x 600 @ NVIDIA TITAN

Hello eidy, thanks for you opinion. Your concept is great too...love the neons :D

it is my purpose to give the idea of moving particles, or movement, through the rendering process...Not easy I must say  ....hehehe...but it has been lot of fun trying all sorts of crazy ideias.

Lets see what I come up with.

Important Part of the general concept

1 - simple
2 - pure
3 - notion of time - connecting to the importance of (Octane performance/quality/time ratio)
4 - Only use internal features of Octane (materials, texture generators, sky)
5 - Its all Octane ;)

I think I must put this in the first description of WIP.

cheers

I'm glad you like my concept.
Best of luck to you in finding that gimmick with the noise based animation :) I'm quite busy at the moment as otherwise I'll be "fighting" for this cause also :)

If you don't mind, here's a tip: set a more out-of-focus / blurry unobtrusive background ;)

Max inspiration,

Also ... it's a very healthy conceptual base you've described there - especially the part about "it's all Octane" ;). Me like :) (and subscribe as my work followed the exact same rule)

Hello there guys.

Here is my Final Entry to the competition, my project concept about the time we spend looking to the progress bar when rendering. And the role Octane has in the new way we work, the faster results and amazing quality.

the dead hourglasses are other renders (and render engines)  hehe

So my project is all about Octane...all made with Octane features;

Sky (amazing light)

Emissions( Blom and Glare)

Texture Generators(used in bump, alpha, etc)

and all the other that you all know,

Its all Octane ;)

Was really fun to do this...

hope I managed to get more time to do all the things I wanted.

hope you like. :D

cheers
