Revit to 3ds max material export

Hi all,

is there a quick way of getting the materials that Octane for Revit plugin converts inside of revit into 3ds Max, so that they read as Octane for 3ds max native materials? I mean - they are the same materials no?

And if there is no currently quick way, could a solution be made?(maybe relatively inexpensively?) - see my point is, 3ds Max can already read and open Revit files, would adding a material converter already available in Octane for revit be hard to add into the import(or link) process so that they can be read by Octane for max?

I understand that eventually we may have an ORBX that is able to extract all that into native packages but we're not there yet and there is no talk of when that may be...

Also, I'm writing in this forum but I don't know if I should be posting in the Max section or contacting Neonzorgulb or Faceoff directly?

Kind regards,

Jani

Hi

The can export the the scene to ORBX and open that scene in Octane Standalone, and the materials will be visible, or you can save the materials to the LocalDb in the plugin. You may be able to open the .ORBX file in the 3DS Max plugin if it offers that functionality.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the swift response.

The process you suggested had occurred to me, but seems awfully tedious if you have any more than a few materials(and I have many! :( ). Maybe if there was a quick way to export all scene mats into local DB via a script. But even that wouldn't solve the problem as I'd need to assign all of them once I got the scene into Max.

I just thought since 3ds Max already opens Revit files maybe there was a quick way for octane to instruct the way materials should be imported as they appear in Revit. Seems like this may be harder to pull off than I thought.

I'll ask the 3ds Max developer to see if he can do a quick port of revit materials so that they appear as octane mats inside 3ds Max.

Thanks again for all your time.

Just to share what I did on this,
simply say I export revit and max contents separately to orbx, then combine both in the octane standalone. then work out everything in the standalone.
I prefer do not do too much material things in revit, just to use different name of materials for different element to let them be able to be separated in the later stage. Revit's material is not doing a lot anyway.

Hi Paul,
Where do I find the orbx export button in Revit plugin?

Where do I find the orbx export button in Revit plugin?
Open the Octane Viewport, then rightclick the Rendertarget in there should be an option to save to OCS/ORBX.
