Need to install Octane plugin for Revit without admin rights

Hi Faceoff,

Is it possible to install the Octane revit plugin without admin rights? I have an octane studio license and need to export from revit to octane standalone. At this firm I don't have admin rights on the PC where Revit is loaded and moving the revit files is not possible due to concurrent use by other people and file linkage issues. I want to export to standalone and render on my personal computer.

Alternately I tried using an obj exporter for revit from inglegreen.com (this does not require admin rights). But unfortunately this exporter is not working with Revit 2020. Is it possible for you to provide a similar script to export an OBJ file out from revit 2020? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Azims

Hi Azims - what version of the plugin and license do you have please? I will see if I can do a build of the plugin that doesn't require Admin access.

Hi Faceoff,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have the studio license with 2 gpu limit. Please see attached screen captures. First shows the page I downloaded it from (green arrow). Second shows the downloaded files on my computer. I can download a earlier release if you want. My only requirement is it should install on Revit 2020 without admin rights and export to standalone.

Thanks again for all you help,
Azims

Hi Azims

Here is a version of the 2020.1 version of the plugin (which is still in TEST at the moment, and not STABLE) for you to try, which should not need Admin access to install.

https://render.otoy.com/customerdownloads/plugins/2e/80/66/ec/OctaneRenderForRevit2020_2020_1_0_65_STUDIO.exe

Please let me know how you go.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

No luck. See attached. I tried to run the exe file. It gave me the admin message. Do I need to install this on my personal computer and then copy paste the files to the other computer?

Thanks,
Azims

Hi - I think I have found a solution. Are you able to try the following installers please?

Thanks

Hi Paul,

This works. Thank you very much. I have one follow up question. Is it also possible to get the rhino plugin without admin rights? Finally, (I promise this is the last request) is it possible to get octane standalone installation without admin rights? Many time I need to combine pieces of the model from both platforms and standalone serves that purpose.

Thanks you once again. This makes my life so much easier.

Hi Azims. The Rhino plugin is a package in the Rhino installer format, so the admin rights requirements is controlled by Rhino. You could try installing it by dragging the .RHI onto the Rhino UI. If that does not work, then it's something you would need to pursue with McNeel. Similarly, for Octane Standalone, you would need to ask OTOY.

Thanks

Paul
