Sorry to dig up an old thread but does anyone know when exporting from 3D Coat which normal map node to work with.. There's normal map software presets and not sure which one to select?

Dust looks quite good, but still something's missing, like it's a very "plastic studio dust" maybe try to play with the lighting..

Thanks PyatFre! Wow, sorry this took so long to respond. You're right it's doesn't look quite right, it was more of a work in progress. I was thinking of adding a particle system on top of the texture to get more of a 3D effect, hopefully more realistic as well. Here is a test image I was playing around with, it would be better with more random shaped dust particles, I just used a iso sphere instance. This particular test uses 120000 particles.

Sorry mikeadamwood, this just passed me by for some reason. I just export a tangent normal map from 3D-Coat and import it into Octane. Or if the texture is very deep I export a displacement map and use that.

I don't know which lighting PyatFre is talking about. The key to good dust is irregular shape, and good normal and roughness maps. I've never tried 3D coat but I think it's similar to other texturing software.
