The hair in your post here is Ali's HR159. It isn't his (or her?) best one for details, others show much finer strands. I'll post one up shortly as an example.

But you can apply the other supplied textures for that hair in the MaterIal room in Poser by clicking on the eye above the texture and going to the drive you have Poser Content installed to and: Content\Runtime\Textures\Ali\Hr-159. Alternatively you can do it in Octane in the Setup window>Materials. Then expand the HR-159 tab, Click the HR159M1 (do the same with M2 and M3 later). Then click Input Texture and at the bottom of the Setup windo click the tab with your current map listed and it will bring up the Select Image File window. Click the Select from file system and it will automatically open up the same location yoour current texture map is in.

Here is one of the blonde textures applied to all of the three hair parts (M1, M2 and M3 in the Octane Setup window). The other image show three separate textures, each applied to a different part of the hair. You can mix and match them as you like. In both images, I have specular power set at 0.7 and roughness at 0.5.
The image with the red hair is called Pyrit Hair, which has very nice strand details. Unfortunately that one only comes with the red texture, but you can always adjust that in Photoshop to make other colours.

While these results look alright - the glossiness levels of the hair seem to be off.
The hair looks too close to plastic.

You could try using an external hair shader like RedSpec TGX Hair in order to further enhance your hair renders.

Bumping this older one here, because I didn't want to start a new topic =)

Recently I've been messing around with transmapped hair materials.
So far I found, that a mix of diffuse and glossy can make quite a nice look, but I'm never sure, what I should plug into the Transmission node, of the diffuse material.
Is this node rather meant to be used with a greyscale something (some black/white image, or greyscale colour 0 - 1) or something colourful (RGB colour, image map)?
Changes in the Transmission node indeed makes drastic changes to the outcome of hair, in the final render.

How do you guys prefer to set up your hairs?
