Is there a way to put objects on layers, and render separate passes?

No there is not. You'd have to make the object visible or not in Poser then render that out in Octane for each 'layer'.

Poser doesn't support any sort of layering system - so you need to manually set the visibility of the items you want rendered/no rendered.

"Advanced Figure Manager 2" has a Layers module that will do exactly that. You simply create the layers you want and name them and then dump props and figures in them. You can then hide those layers and all the stuff you have put in them will be hidden instantly. It's very useful for very big scenes.

Thanks Zay,

Looks good, but I dont see any mention of Octane with that plugin. Do you think you could
control The visibility of Octane objects from there? More important, could you load only a certain
layer into Octane memory, to not overload Octane texture limits, and GPU vram limitations?

When you hide things in Poser it will not show in octane when you refresh the scene. The tool will just help you organize it in layers.
Try hide stuff in Poser and then refresh the scene in octane to see if it works for you.

With the plugin release 1.21 (which I am working on right now) you will be able to set the Object Visibility, Camera Visibility and Shadow Visibility for each prop and figure whilst the viewport is open. Not exactly layers - but a step in the right direction.
