Poser Pro 2014 problems

Just doing a test render with the new "Roxie" figure in Poser Pro 2014, using the Octane Render Poser plugin (v. 1.16a5). Just the default, zeroed character with the default materials.

As you can see, there are some problems. The eyes render black, for one. I searched the forum and found the thread about eye meshes sharing the same vertices. The only material assignments for Roxie are CorneaLeft and CorneaRight, EyeballLeft and EyeballRight, and IrisLeft and IrisRight.

I have tried setting the opacity of the Corneas to 0, and also setting both the Corneas and Eyeballs to 0. It doesn't do anything--still black. If I set the Irises to zero, then obviously the whole eye goes black. Help?

The second problem, as you can see, is seams in the figure mesh between polygroups. Any ideas?

This may not apply... but... at least in the Daz plugin, there's the "rayepsilon" which (sometimes) looks like 0.0000 but may be 0.00001. Anything other than zero can cause this. Try setting it to 0.01 then to 0.00 to see if that helps.

Ah, good call! That was it. The eyes are now rendering correctly, and I don't even have to turn off the corneas.

Now I just need to figure out why the mesh is broken. It almost looks like it is subdividing/smoothing each polygroup separately, but I'm not sure what to do about it.

Once you've set rayepsilon to 0, you can save it as the "default" by saving that rendertarget as the default for all new scenes (rightclick he Settings tree - Save as Default).

I haven't been able to reproduce this yet. Try moving the Poser animation slider to the next frame and then back - does that fix it?

Also, the subd mesh from Roxie is not being rendered - only the base mesh. There will hopefully be a Poser SR soon which rectifies this.

Ah, cool. I will do that.

Nope, unfortunately not. I've also tried restarting Poser and reloading the scene, and also restarting and making a new scene, but the problem persists. (At least the eyes are looking better!)

Ah, I see what you are referring to now. PoserPython has not yet been updated to handle the subd meshes with PoserPro2014 yet. I will keep talking to Smith Micro to push for a fix to this ASAP.

Also, to render Roxie at the moment (prior to a Smith Micro subd fix), you can simply select Roxie -> Figure -> Skinning Method -> Poser Traditional. That will remove the seems.

Right you are--thanks, Paul. Hopefully Smith Micro will get a fix out for the subdivision issue soon, but getting rid of the seams is a big improvement.

One other fairly major problem that I am having is crashing when I change... well, a whole lot of things in the Octane settings and materials pane. For example, I can change the imager and environment settings with no issues (including importing new environment maps), but if I try to change the kernel to anything other than pathtracing, Poser immediately crashes, every time. Likewise, in the Materials panel, I can mess with the values on the default material nodes all I want, but if I try to change nodes (i.e. change a bumpmap node from float texture to marble), Poser immediately crashes, every time. This prevents me from making any major changes to the default materials, which is kind of a bummer.

I use the latest plugin with PP2014 as well and doing the things you describe do not crash Poser (actually I have never had the plugin crash poser, not in PP2012 nor in PP2014).
I think Paul would like to see the octaneplugin.log, that might give him a clue on what is going wrong on your system. Attach it or send it to Paul
