The is the recommended thread for posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for Poser, build 1.00m.

In the unlikely event that you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- 32 or 64 bit
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- Poser version (Poser -> Help -> About Poser) - list the build number (eg. 9.0.3.23027)

I will be posting updates to the plugin as required, which will be reported in this thread.

Troubleshooting
- GUI issues (lock-up/crash) on large scenes (ie. 4million polys) - potentially due to the Windows Vista/7 "Timeout Detection and Recovery" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/gg487368.aspx. Settings can be changed using Regedit. The recommended setting for Octane are registry setting HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers, TdrLevel = 3, TdrDelay =10 (if these settings are not already there, rightclick the right panel -> New -> DWORD). You will need to reboot after changing these settings.

Limitations
- Loading a Poser scene by double-clicking a pz3 file in the Windows file explorer, or selecting from your "Recent Files" will not load the previously saved Octane scene data for that file when Poser starts. This is due to a Poser bug which has been reported to Smith Micro. Instead, use the Poser menu File -> Open to open any pz3 files which contain Octane scene data.
- Material Picking (by clicking on a material in the Poser Material Room) does not select that material in the OctaneRender material tab if you have a camera selected in the Parameter Dials window.
- Props which have no uv mapping (ie. some glass objects) raise a python exception. This will be fixed in the next patch.

Hope you enjoy using the plugin!

Paul

Hi Paul,

I am having an issue with 'custom' V4 characters. The OctaneRender plugin works perfectly well with Andy2, props, and the default V4 (default DAZ textures), but when I try to run it with one of my V4 characters that used the EZskin script to generate SSS material nodes, it produces an error dialog and doesn't reach the panel with the Octane viewport dialog box (see attached jpeg). I have very little python programming experience, but could the OctaneRender plugin not like the material-node setup generated by EZskin?

My system specs are
Windows 7
64-bit
16 GB of RAM
GTX 560
nvidia driver version 306.97
Poser 9.0.3.23027

Cheers,
Christof

Hi Christof

I will check this out now.

Can you pls tell me the exact version of EzSkin you are using?

As an interim workaround, simply apply the default mat poser to that figure in order to render with the Plugin. The EzySkin SSS setup is not converted by the plugin. For an SSS setup, check my facebook link below - there is a tutorial on setting up such a shader in Octane.

Hi again Christof

V4 with EzSkin ran fine on my system. Would it be possible to try to load that scene into the plugin again, and then send me the octaneplugin.log file (from your Poser temp directory -> specified in Edit -> General Preferences -> Misc tab). I suspect there is some other geometry in the scene causing the issue, and the log file will help me track it down. If you could email to [email protected], that would be great (or PM the file to me here). Thanks

Paul

Where is the actual download for this?

Hi rcallicotte

My understanding was that it was provided on the purchase page. I've asked for clarification from Otoy. Sorry for the confusion and delay.

To download, go to http://render.otoy.com, go into the "Customer Area", click "Downloads", Select Software "OctaneRender for Poser". The one installer archive contains the 32 and 64 bit versions.

Hope that helps.

Hi,
I got the plugin and installed it without any problems. Within 30 minutes after download I had a first decent result!

Of course I have not yet tried most features, but what I can predict is that the feature to save / restore all materials of a figure will be very useful!

I have one question: I did not find a way to save the converted Octane scene. Is this done automatically in some hidden folder?
Reason I'm asking is that once the setup of the scene is complete, and you're only tweaking lighting / materials, it would be no longer
required to fire up Poser for that. Another possible reason would be some extension of Octane which is not yet mirrored in the plugin.
Apart from that, it would be sufficient to work just in Poser.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi,
me again. One more thing I cannot figure out how to do is how to modify materials. Section 3.1 of the manual describes to click the node to see a pull down menu, which I cannot get.

An alternative way to solve this would be to import material macros created in Octane standalone, but they to be a different format (ocm is XML, poe is some binary format).

Best regards,
Michael
