This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for DAZ Studio - TEST (ie. pre-release) and STABLE releases.

SOLUTIONS TO COMMON ISSUES

1) Make sure your NVIDIA drivers are up to date.

2) Make sure you are running the latest version of the OctaneRender for DAZStudio plugin.

3) If you experience a DAZStudio crash - deleting C:\Users\[username]\OctaneRender\Data\OctaneRender_settings.oczdb may resolve the issue.
This also resolves the "COULD NOT INITIALISE IN-MEMORY DB!" error on startup and a number of other issues.

4) If the Save button is disabled when using the Final button - disable the Final button and in Render settings select the SuperScope (2:1) Size / aspect ratio and drag the Viewport height or width until you reach required resolution.

5) If rendering an animation fails after 11 frames - make sure the DAZStudio viewport is visible when you render the animation.

6) If Octane materials are not loading when you load a previously saved scene - tick Preferences->Load OctaneRender materials from .duf user presets. If ticking this option does not stick between DAZStudio restarts, delete OctaneRender_settings.oczdb as per NOTE 3 above.

7) If you get a "Could not save a frame for X times!" - please refer to the thread at
for potential solutions.

8) If you get a "Bogus Scene Path" error - this is due to having an apostrophe in the filepath of a texturemap (so store your textures in foldernames which do not have apostrophes).

9) Octane panel title bar is off the screen and cannot be closed - click anywhere on the Octane panel and then press Alt-F4.

10) Rendering animation results in the scene emitter intensities changing - this is because rendering animations is done in "Final" mode, where meshes are merged. To resolve this, UNTICK the Preferences->Use Combined Mesh, or ENABLE the Surface Brightness pin on each of the emission materials in the scene.

11) Denoiser is not working - make sure you have a graphics card selected for Denoising in the System tab->Open Device Settings window, and that you are using the Path Tracing kernel.

12) Render artifacts near eyebrows - this is due to the eyebrow geometry going inside the head mesh surface. So morph, move or scale the eyebrows so they do not intersect with the head mesh.

13) Octane panes do not appear on the screen (ie. they open off the screen) - Main Menu Bar->Window->Workspace->Select Layout->Accept (you might choose a different layout to the current layout to make this work).

KNOWN ISSUES AWAITING RESOLUTION

1) Panoramic camera and OSL nodes are not currently supported.

2) Templating is not currently working for specular and roughness maps from Iray materials. - FIXED (please report any issues)

3) UDIM Tiles are not currently supported.

4) Some of the newer OctaneRender material and texture types are not supported. - FIXED (please report any issues)

DAZ Studio Version
DAZ Studio 4.8 or later on Windows 8, 10 or 11 64bit

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped.
Also, make sure you use an Nvidia Studio driver of version 451.xx or higher.

Network Rendering

For Network Rendering, you must use the OctaneRender Enterprise Node release from the Octane Standalone forums/download page which matches the exact Octane version of the plugin you are using. This version matches OctaneRender Enterprise 2021.1.6 Render Node builds.

Support Issues
If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win 8, 10, 11)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- DAZ Studio version
- OctaneRender for DAZ Studio version (e.g. 2021.1.6_75)

- The most important part of resolving a problem is being able to reproduce that problem. So pls provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Changes since 2021.1.5 - 72

  • OctaneRender 2021.1.6 - this is a minor revision; details available here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=80315
  • Custom LUTs
Under Rendersettings, you can now create a "Custom LUT" node and load a LUT file.

    • Choose the color space to use when saving the rendered image
  • Sticky Node List
If you don't like the list of nodes you can drag from disappearing all the time, there is now a checkbox to make it stay put!
    sticky-nodes-list.png
  • Improved source selection for template textures
    • You can now simply type in the name of the Daz property you want to use if it's not in the presented list.
    • The pop-up list of properties now always includes all the mappable properties from the Daz material(s) that are currently attached to the Octane material:

Awesome thanks for the new toys. Can't wait to play with all the new features.
Can we get a cycle button set for the OCIO selection like the one for LUTS?
I know we are supposed to set it and leave it, but it would be good to cycle through all the options as we learn the new feature.

Hi, I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean a pair of up and down arrows that move to the next/previous item in the list? I don't think there is something like that for LUTs? Or did you mean like for "Response curve"?

Please note that the OCIO configs that I originally linked to in the announcement are a little out of date. You can find the latest here: https://github.com/colour-science/OpenC ... s/tag/v1.2.

Thanks to @Hun73rdk_1 for pointing that out.

Sorry I forgot to attach the image. Yes, the up and down arrow like shown in the image. If we can get that added to the end to scroll through available options from the list.

Right, I see. Shouldn't be a problem.

Nice update!

Not related to this update, but does the plugin support NVLink p2p memory sharing? https://docs.otoy.com/StandaloneH_STA/S ... idia%20sli I think it did in the past, but I'm not sure on that.

I recently turned mine back on after not using it for quite a while, as I've been running out of VRAM more and more often recently, but now I'm seeing silent failures, not errors, the render just stops updating and I can hear my GFX cards fans spinning down shortly after. Just trying to narrow down what the cause of the problem is, as other than turning SLI on, the only other thing I've changed is updating to the latest studio drivers and SLI seems like the more likely reason.

As far as I know, the plugin should support NVLink just like Standalone does. All the same settings should be available if you click on "Open Device Settings" on the System tab. If you're still having problems, please post a screenshot of the device settings window and also copy everything from the "Octane Log" at the bottom of the System tab.

Cheers,
Toby.

Testing the new templates

Postby sudisk » Fri Aug 26, 2022 11:18 am

Hello,

I've been playing with the new template configuration and as for setting it up, it is great. I haven't tested the manual entry yet, but the menus and selections, when the material is connected or not to a surface, are nicely done. Thanks.

As for applying the templates, there are still some inconsistencies.
Here is my setup. I tested with a base Gen8 character face but I checked and the behavior is the same with any material.
I have a template material derived from the Redspec materials, on which I set up the new templates. I have set Translucency on transmission, Diffuse, Bump, Normals left unchanged from the original material, with modified parameters, and the Specular map is used twice. The first use is for general reflectivity, and the second one is to emphasize wetness a bit. I set a default map for the normal with the "Keep previous" checkbox active because the base Gen8 material does not have normals. The default normal map was created from the Gen8 bump map with "Materialize". I start applying the template with a blank material attached to the surface.
1. The "default" maps are still not applied, even if they are declared as templates (diffuse, opacity, bump, normal). Fixing this could be a good way to make things close to what DAZ users are used to when appying materials.
2. The behavior of the template application is not constant.
  • When I apply the template from the presets, I have the Transmission/Translucency map applied, and only one of the Specular maps, but not both. None of the diffuse, opacity, bump maps are applied. The normal map remains the default and is not unset. (see attachment Face_from_preset.JPG)
  • I reapply the blank material, then the template material from the unused materials, and then all the maps are applied, except the Specular map that was previously applied. (see attachment Face_from_unused_1.JPG)
  • I reapply the blank material, then the template material from the unused materials, and it's like when I applied the material from the presets again.
3. I tried something else then. I applied twice the material from the preset, making a copy in the unused materials, and I cycled applying both template materials instead of switching back to the blank. I get a cycle between no base maps applied and all base maps applied, with either one of the two specular maps applied, cycling too. (Face_from_unused_2.JPG and Face_from_unused_3.JPG)
4. I tried reapplying the DAZ materials, leaving the template Octane materials connected, and we are back to square one.

I will keep doing tests. If you could fix the initial loading and the issue with multiple maps with the same reference from DAZ shaders, I think that it would become possible to package a material set that could be applied over a DAZ material without further modification.
