Sometimes renders 4x4 white square

Hi everyone

I'm new to Octane, using DAZ Studio 4.15.0.2 and Octane plugin 2020.5.15.58 on Windows 10 64 Home with a GTX 980Ti.

Struggling with an unpredictable bug: randomly my camera renders a 4x4 white square. Once this happens to one camera in the scene it happens to all cameras in the scene, and at the same time the Perspective View resets to landscape even though my Studio aspect frame and render settings are set to portrait. I cannot determine what causes the error and once it happens I cannot change anything to fix the problem. The only thing that works is deleting all cameras, deleting the Octane scene node, saving the scene, restarting Studio, reloading the scene then re-creating all cameras and Octane render settings. Are these symptoms familiar to anyone?

Attached screenshots (in reverse order so start from the bottom picture and move up) show the camera render before the problem (pic 1), the Perspective View render before the problem (pic 2), the 4x4 white square camera render after the problem (pic 3) and the incorrect Perspective View after the problem (pic 4).

Good to see such a vibrant community jumping in to help each other.

Guess I'll bin Octane and go back to Iray.

So long.

Hi Cridgit,

Thanks for the post and sorry for the late reply.

Can you please try enabling the **Live** option enabled in the Octane viewport window?
This would sync your while you work or do a force reload.

In the future, please make sure to report any bug/possible bug under the Bug report section (viewforum.php?f=145)
please let us know how it goes!!

Cheers
Kind Regards

Maybe this helps:
Check the camera settings:
- turn "use local dimensions" ON and it will render only 4x4 pixels
- turn "use local dimensions" OFF and the preview renders just fine.

Thank you Mlru, for the workaround!!

We are able to get the dimension working correctly!! :D
Anyway, the bug ticket is still open for us to investigate.

Hi Miru

Thank you for the suggestion; confirmed that works for me too. Camera local dimensions ON = Octane render dimensions error. Camera local dimensions OFF = Octane renders correctly.
