A lot of the more recently introduced Octane features never made (and probably never will make) it into the plug-in, Paul is hardly to blame for that though.
It's essentially still leftovers from t_3...
I totally agree. The plugin was in a really bad shape when Paul took over. Modifying other people's code is definitely not easy. I have been writing code and building systems in C/C++ for 21+ years so I can guess what kind of situation Paul faces. But yes, this plugin does need to improve and the bugs fixed. There are few things I am trying to solve on my own. If I succeed, I will share the code with Paul and hopefully he can incorporate it in the plugin code.
In any case I am looking forward to 3.8 release. It did render the scene faster than 3.7. I exported the whole scene from Daz and rendered it under the standalone 3.7 /3.8RC2. I think it was 20% to 30% faster. As for Version 4, I won't my breath. Don't think we will be seeing it any time soon. Just need the 3.8 to speed up my rendering and use some of its new features. I did not see any speed difference between 3.7 and the 4.0 Beta even with the AI Denoiser turned on. I guess its impact depends on what you have on the scene and what materials you are using. In any case 4.0 is still is early development so things will only improve I think. But yes, their demo clip for the AI Denoiser was pretty impressive.
