afaik 311.06 is already a tad old also; current are 314.xxSimonWM wrote:Windows 7 Pro prompted me to upgrade my GTX 580 drivers. I was on version 306.97 and the drivers this upgrade puts are version 311.06. I've notice a bit of a slower performance and slightly different light in DS Octanerender but I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it. Has anyone else upgraded their drivers. I'd be interested in knowing what drivers are other GTX 580 owners using with Octanerender. I was quite happy with the 306.97 drivers performance and I usually avoid upgrading drivers if everything is working fine but I guessed if Microsoft is pushing 311.06 must be the OS is more stable with these ones which is always a good thing.

ms pushing nvidia drivers has almost never to do with overall system stability. most nv driver updates contain bugfixes for games, rather seldom in terms of cuda, and especially for gtx 5** owners the cuda updates do not always bring better performance, since nvidia is focusing on the newer 6** cards and their performance. and as soon nvidia has done the whql certification tango with microsoft, ms is pushing them. more an automatism than something else.
different lighting sounds rather strange. not that it could not be possible. maybe the jump from 306 to 311 did also had some major cuda update; don't know...
no since i changed allegiance, from support searcher to support giver, i haven't updated my footer in fact i use the same 311.06 since i try to keep what lots of users also will have just because of the windows update...SimonWM wrote:T_3 are you using version Nv 301.42, am I reading correct from your signature? If so maybe I should downgrade my drivers. Since Microsoft is always behind I thought what they pushed was meant for stability but what you mentions makes sense.
