That would be great - thanks t_3!

I think I'm going to love Octane Render and the DAZ plug-in. Here's my first render. Now to read the manual and watch some tutorials to learn what I'm really doing. :D

So that's using the DAZ SSS Skin material from the Live DB. As you can see it's pretty shiny. Which isn't really a problem with this render, but it's going to be a problem in general later. I can't seem to dial down the gloss at all. I've tried cutting the specular value in half, I've tried doing the same with the gloss value, I've tried bumping up the bump.

Anybody want to throw me a clue (Other than the clue that hair doesn't magically penetrate flesh like it does at several points in here) about how to use that particular material if you don't want your characters to look like they just came out of an oil bath?

You want to set the roughness setting, which is found on glossy and specular materials, between 0.2 and 0.4 is good for skin, looks like you have it set to 0.
You'll be able to lower the bump back down as well, around 0.05 is often good for a lot of skins, but not all, play around with it (for example some v4 elite skins require 0.005).

Man was I surprised to see what can be done with only 4GB of VRAM using Octane!

Image

A scene like this requires about 18 GB of RAM using DAZ Studio/Reality/LuxRender, and Octane just renders it, WOW!

Cheers!

And one more, why not : )

For this one I first rendered six cube faces that I subsequently converted into a single 360x180 degree equirectangular image.
Then I remapped it to a Stereographic projection using Flaming Pear in Photoshop.
The result is an extreme wide-angle image without the usual (extremely ugly) distortions.
Hope you like it

Cheers!

I have a pretty lousy video card with only 190 cuda cores. But I'm hopeful to get a new card soon, so I splurged on Octane.
Here's my first render, where I spent most of my time trying to get a nice skin texture with SSS.

Stopped after 20 minutes of render time... if my math is correct, a Titan Black could be almost 20X faster... so in a perfect world I would get this in one minute with a new top-end system.

I would turn the bump down a bit. Otherwise it is not bad at all :)
