Is there a demo version for Cinema 4D Metal ? I want to compare it for real (inside Cinema) to other renderers I look at.

And what options do I have to work on a MacBook Pro, an eGPU like Razer Core X or what?

Hi,
you can find C4D OctaneX PR11 Big Sur Free Prime plugin at OTOY shop page here:

It is limited to max 1x GPU, and it requires Big Sur 11.2 or greater, with an AMD GPU or Intel SkyLake GPU (not mixed with AMD GPU) (Apple M1 GPU support is considered beta/experimental)

The Prime tier is free for at least all of 2021. The expiration date that you see is a rolling expiration date, so it will continue to automatically extend itself as needed.

About eGPU, you can add one of the supported AMD GPUs in an eGPU box connected via Thunderbolt 3, here is a graph of speed in Standalone OctaneX under 11.4:

OctaneX scales linearly, so if you add a second GPU of the same type, the rendering speed will be 2x and so on.

When you say the free Octane X is limited to 1 GPU, can it be used with Apple's duo mpx modules - e.g 6800x duo?

Yes, but only at 50% of its power, since only one of the two GPUs can be enabled at time.
You should need at least a Studio license to use it at 100% (max 2x GPUs), or, since mpx modules can be used only with new Mac Pro, you can use the Enterprise Mac Pro edition, free for now, that doesn't have any limitation:

Hey Beppe. Thanks for the quick answer.
This is exactly the problem I am facing and the suggested workaround just did the trick. YES! Finally.
Works perfectly now with the last bigger scene I tested. :D

Maybe this information helps with finding the problem:
I just re-rendered 2 scenes I exported and uploaded to RNDR back in October 2020 with PR6 on Catalina for testing.
Both animated scenes (each more than 250 frames) had no issues at all. So it seems the "glitch" in the ORBX-Export
must have come later on into the C4D-Plugins?

I'm getting an "FumeFx library initialisation error!" when trying to export an orbx as suggested – no matter what file.
The strange thing: I don't use FumeFX

Hi, no matter how many times I check "low" priority it goes back to "high" or to unchecked "use priority".

According to Otoy´s recommendations when using one gpu : "low" and "use priority" should be checked.
Why does the plug-in reset it everytime?
I understand the wrong set-up causes instability and crashes, and when Cinema is opened back again the previous set-up might -sometimes- have been changed.
It will end up crashing again if one forgets to check it everytime C4D is started, and so back to the start until one remembers this set-up might have been absurdly changed.

Is there a solution for this?

the Fume error is not important, please check the path of the c4d scene, if on network path, try to move it in your local hd.

@ tolitoli:

If you have a Mac with an Intel GPU + AMD, you need to completely disable the intel GPU, and render only with AMD.

@ iRota:
please, try to delete the oct.dat file, at the following path:
`/Users/UserName/Library/Preferences/Maxon/Maxon Cinema 4D R2X_XXXXXXX/prefs/oct.dat`
