Basically what that topic is requesting? Is there any news on this?

It's quite strange that this has not been implemented yet as it used by all professionals.

Maybe I'm missing something here.

You are just missing the fact that 3dsmax implementations are way far behind the current GPU renderer wars.
Max plugin seems like to continue being no more than only an adaptation of the standalone.. And quite possibly will not have it's own integration to the max native system like cinema 4d
It's either otoy people are not real users of max or they hate it or something similar to it..

I have never seen any developer saying this third party software is looking good and users use it very much. Lets try and implement it.
If they can't implement it due to SA core. They won't let us know.. No roadmap. No reply. No transparency to users.

It's like a thick wall and you're knocking as if it's a door.
My advice, don't waste any breath.
Cheers,

You will need to ask this question in a forum that the Otoy devs read (ie. the Octane Standalone 3.06 release thread).

Apparently its fixed for the standalone.

I have tried doing it for rhino and these were the colours I'm getting. It seems slightly darker, which may be a problem for after effects and possibly other programs.

Would be great if this could work with worksession files! That way I wouldn't have to switch from each worksession just to set the layer id, especially on files with 10-20 worksessions.

Also on another note is if we could input the rgb colors instead of using sliders. I find it tedious using the sliders as its quite sensitive especially when I need specific colors to be rendered.

If you are using Layer ID 1, 2, 4 as suggested by Jo, these are not pure Red Green and Blue.
Correct ID :
73 = Red
18 = Green
36 = Blue
45 = Magenta
54 = Cyan
27 = Yellowish
63 = As close to White as possible
64 = As close to Black as possible

But there's a better/simpler workflow for that than using layerID,
you can set custom color by objects, this colors appear in the ObjectLayer pass.

But I don't know if Object Layers color and ObjectLayer pass are exposed in Rhino.

Also the colors are slighly darker in rhino because the gama applied to tonemapped passes have been changed in 3.0.6
(now it's always 2.2 whatever is setup in the imager )

I just tried this with the 3.06 TEST 3 version of the plugin, and the color matched exactly. May I suggest trying with the next release (I will port a pre-release in a few minutes).

This is not possible - sorry. Worksession files are treated as a single mesh.

Also on another note is if we could input the rgb colors instead of using sliders. I find it tedious using the sliders as its quite sensitive especially when I need specific colors to be rendered.
The original color dialog allowed the entered of numbers - but users complained, and asked for the current color dialog - so I feel I can't win on this one :-) You can click the < and > buttons to increase the R, G or B by 1.
