wish : custom colors for Material ID

Hello Paul,

here is a wish:

Since I have to do very much PP in Photoshop, I am heavily dependant on the material ID Feature to make selections of certain materials e.g. the brick wall of a house to make quick tweaks in PS like changing the color...

right now my workflow is to use the magic wand tool to select a color out of the material ID png file.

while this approach is sufficient for a lot of situations, I would like to be able to assign the material ID color manually.

My main reason is, that this way I would be able to generate black and white alpha masks for needed materials.
These B/W masks could then be directly processed in PS and most importantly would IMHO produce much more exact result than my current magic wand approach.

best

Andreas

Hi Andreas - may I suggest you post this feature request in the Octane Standalone or Render Passes discussion threads - so the Octane devs see it. I suspect custom color would not be trivial to implement - but certainly worth suggesting it.

Thanks

yes, turbidity helps, but right now it can only be raised to a maximum of 6, if it would be possible to increase this value it might basically do what I want to do (clients are often afraid of "dark" and "unfriendly" shadow although it adds depth and necessary contrast ...)
Hi Andreas - the maximum turbidity amount is set by Octane rather than the plugin - so I suggest posting this request in the Octane Standalone thread for the Octane devs to implement.

Thanks

Paul

IMPORTANT PLUGIN INFO: There is a Windows/Rhino bug where if you have the Rhino Material panel docked to the Rhino UI, then when you move a slider on an Octane Material and then tab to the Octane tab, Rhino will lock up. To get around this, Undock the Rhino Material panel. McNeel will be releasing a fix for this shortly.

I have refreshed the installers at the top of this thread with:

2.13.0.19
- Compiled with Octane 2.13. See the Octane Standalone 2.13 release notes for important changes made in this release
- IMPORTANT: Requires Cuda driver 344.x or later
- If the configuration file becomes corrupt, the plugin gives an option to the user to return it to default settings
- When rendering Octane Materials in the Rhino Preview window, if the Octane material is glossy or diffuse, and has a node type other than Grayscale in the Opacity, the rendered opacity will be 0.5.
- Opacity values < 1 now render with transparency in the Rhino Preview window
- Added ability to save images to files/folders with special characters in them
- Fixed issue where pasted nodes in the Material tree was not setting the node icon
- Fixed issue where Disconnecting an Image node and then refreshing the scene would display an exception

And a reminder about keeping the Material panel UNDOCKED until McNeel issues are fix as per the msg above.

I missed a new feature in the previous release.....so I have refreshed the installers at the top of this thread with:

2.13.0.20
- Added option to import a proxy from an Octane Standalone ORBX file. The ORBX file must have one single unconnected Mesh node in order for the import to work. Materials for imported ORBX files cannot be edited in the Rhino plugin - they need to be edited in Octane Standalone

Great news!

Update your drivers people - it solved all of my problems with vram recently :)

Btw, I have materials tab docked and it works ok :) But i'm very careful with it :)

Mac

I have refreshed the installer at the top of this thread with:

2.14.0.21
- Compiled with Octane 2.14
- Fixed in issue where if a block instance has an invalid material assignment, the plugin was assigning the Default Material rather than the layer material.
- Added Polygon Side texture node (see Octane Standalone 2.14 release notes for details)

Hi Paul,

64 bit - file does not exist - but It can be downloaded here - http://render.otoy.com/customerdownloads/plugins/OctaneRender_for_Rhino5_2_14_0_21_32bit.exe

Some date is misspelled in 64 bit link I guess ;)
