Group Materials on Import.

Is there a way to consolidate objects with the same material? For example, I have 250 plus objects with the same material. When I import the model into Octane, it seems as a material node is created for each object. So I end up with 250 duplicates of the same material.

I'm using Rhino 4. Perhaps Rhino 5 export options solve this issue? Anyway, it's a bit overwhelming and very difficult to manage so many materials/objects when they all have the same materia

Yes, currently the plug-in uses the default Rhino OBJ exporter, V5 solves these issues. The plan is to have the plug-in use its own obj exporter to give more flexibility and be able to work around such issues. I'm not sure when I will have that completed however.

Thanks Sam! That is good news. I'll switch to the Rhino 5 beta when I know I'll be rendering with Octane.

Convert the nurb geometry with the same material into mesh. Then join all new mesh geometry into one object.Attach the material.Export with Octane

Have Fun!

I've uploaded a script to remove and sort the duplicate materials in MTL files when exporting OBJ files from Rhino 3D.

It works for Rhino 4. It may or may not work for other versions.

This is not fully tested, so use at your own risk.

You may post any bugs to me here: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=7044
