I just tired copying the V5 32 bit export_OBJ.rhp to the V4 plug-ins folder this morning and it doesn't seem to work. The plug-in loads, but when you try and export you get an error exporting file message. I'll ask the McNeelies about it, but they seem to be pretty done on the idea of updating V4.

thanks for dropping by,

I upload the whole thing again; here you are, the thing simplified. 3 layers, 3 materials,

octane 2.2b; but happens also with 2.3 pre's
nvidia 258.96 drivers
cuda 3.1 toolkit
windows 7 32
rhino 4 sr8
tried all obj export settings. nothing worked so far

hope you got a clue!

HI mate, just to let you know that I'm on the same boat, it's really seems that Rhino 5 can do the job just right, I did update Rhino 4 obj exporter recently becaue there is a new version http://wiki.mcneel.com/labs/objio but it does issue few things except this one... :(

Hi Waterthinking,

I'm not sure if you've resolved your problem, so if you have ignore this post. I imported your file into Moi3D. The model came in fine. I'm not sure how you exported, but there was some interesting geometry in the 3DM. I cleaned it up, renamed the objects and imported into Octane with Triangles only.

See the attached images, and I've attached the Obj file as well. If you need a hand with conversion let me know.

Kind Regards
Charles'

sorry for my English but I write from Italy and use a translator

I use rhino4 and I had the same problem waterthinking
hundreds of nodes!

I solved it in these days. is necessary to divide rhino objects into mesh and uniting them into material groups

In this way everything works and I can finally import my models in octane ;)

Hello se77e,

I meet the same problem, but i'm not sure to understand your procedure:

What do you mean with " uniting them into material groups"? with layers?

Thank you :D

I've uploaded a script to remove and sort the duplicate materials in MTL files when exporting OBJ files from Rhino 3D.

It works for Rhino 4. It may or may not work for other versions.

This is not fully tested, so use at your own risk.

You may post any bugs to me here: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=7044
