Can't open Rhino files from 4.05 with 2021 plugin Tweet

Hi all!

I've been tasked to evaluate whether or not it's reasonable for our office to finally upgrade from 4.05 to a current version of Octane. I have used my Studio license at home ever since 2020 released, and did not encounter any serious problems (at least non I would have remembered)

However, in the office, on 3 seperate machines I can no longer open any of our rhino files when 2021 is installed. The problem is resolved as soon as I roll back the update. But as is, the upgrade is just not feasable as we have to be able to open and work on older files.

Rhino starts up as usual when not loading in anything, the plugin seems to be working as intended. When opening a file the viewports turn black and rhino goes "not responding".

Is there an incompatibility I'm not aware of? If so, is there an easy fix? Any help would be much appreciated

I already tried deleting config.xml

We're running:
Win10
Rhino 7 (Latest build)
496.49 Studio drivers
2080ti / 2x Titan Xp / 2x 1080ti (in sepearate machines)
64Gb RAM
i7 8700K or newer

Hi - are you able to send me a file which demonstrates this issue please?

Also, a couple of ideas:

1) Check to Octane Log to make sure there are no issues reported there
2) Click the Resolution Lock button to make sure it's not reading the resolution as 0, 0

Thanks for your answer! Where does Octane for Rhino put the log file by default?

I can't lock the resolution, as I dont even get as far as to see the menus. Rhino's Viewports just stay black when loading one of the files, before it locks up and becomes unresponsive.

I'll try to recreate the problem with a new file, since I can't send the actual projects. I'm not sure when I'll get to it though. Is a wetransfer link fine?

I suspect there is an error message box hidden behind Rhino (perhaps you can see it if you mouseover the Rhino icon in your Windows toolbar?)

Where does Octane for Rhino put the log file by default?

Devices tab->Octane Log

Hi Paul,

I think I might have found the reason for my troubles. It seems that whatever part of rhino/octane that looks for missing texture files got stuck while doing so. When I exported a file for you to try with it's textures attached to the .3dm it opened up just fine. I suspect it might be related to our offices server setup, as it caused issues in the past.
