Black Depth Fog

I have a close-up product with a gridded ground going all the way off into the distance. I want to have everything fade off into a black background. Basic LW I can turn the fog off and dial it in and turn it black but I struggle to get the Minimum distance set up and also have the fog set to black as it doesn't even show up when it's all black. Is there a better way to do this in render?

I'm not sure, to be honest, but I suppose that this should be possible using an environment medium node. If you can share an example scene with your workflow I could take a look at it here. This should also be easy to do in post using the z-depth pass.

Thanks,
