Object dissolve over time

Hi All

I have a few objects that I need to dissolve over time, but cannot see a way of doing it. The LightWave dissolve doesn't seem to work when rendering in Octane. Is there a way of doing this? :)

animate for example the opacity over time. (take a look in the material nodes)

Hi,

The LightWave "Object Dissolve" parameter should work with Octane. This parameter is mapped to all the opacity channels of the object's materials. Doesn't it work in your scene?

Thanks,

Dissolve works as expected for me. Have you tried dissolve using a simple scene with just a single cube or object?

Also, I would recommend using Octane Object Properties (custom object plugin) to animate the "Enable State" parameter after dissolving something to 100%. This will make it so that the object is completely ignored by the Octane renderer, as you really don't want to waste computations on an object that isn't visible.

Unfortunately the items are all instances of the same object. The dissolve did actually work (not sure why it didn't last time) but obviously dissolved all of the instances. Not sure how else to get around this.

Nope, sorry. I can't figure how to dissolve only some instances, because all the instances are going to share the same materials and object properties. Perhaps you should use several instancers from copies of the main master object to control the dissolving of each group, but I can't figure another workaround.

Thanks,

Yeah I was thinking I might have to do that, even though there are quite a few instances. Thanks :)
