little but useful feature request

Hi Juanjo

recently i worked with Octane on a long yacht animation (10')

The scene was at lightwave limits, 9-14 millions of polygons hundreds of instances etc.
Octane handled everything well.

One annoying thing was that I had to rerender specific single items using render layers.
Having hundreds of objects i spent lot of times in the render layer window trying to identify in the list my object to move on a different layer.
Would be very nice if we can have a search function on that window or the possibility at least to put in alphabetic order the items or to identify when you open it the selected item in the layout.

this would have speedup a lot our work...

Many thanks for your eccelent work!

+1

I think I remember Juanjo saying, some time ago, that he was going to try and overhaul render layers, since it is a little clunky.. not terribly elegant. Maybe he was waiting until after LWNext, should that day ever come... Do I have this right, Juanjo?

Well, add a button to sort the objects list or add a search function could be possible, but improve the workflow is not easy, because in LightWave currently, you can add custom parameters to the objects to set the layers data, like happens in Houdini, for example. Let's see in the next LW version.

Thanks,

Well if you can add a sort button or something that helps it would be very useful.
We spent lot of time finding the items we wanted to move to a different layer...

THX!

For feature requests please use the regular channel for that, which is the new feature request form here:

https://render.otoy.com/requests/

This can give us a better understanding about which are the most needed features by the whole community as you can support other users requests.
