Getting strange displacement results

I have a displacement map i've made.

Image

and I have a scene i've comiled of a concrete floor

Image

The concrete is smooth and the displacement map has a mid point of 50% gray. However, when I apply the displacement map to my geometry I get extra noise all over.

Image

I can't figure it out, the image has no noise in it whatsoever.

I figured it out;

Allthough I rendered my image as a PNG with no compression it was displaying some minor artifacts. I rendered as a PSD and the noise went away.

Are you using the attached image for the displacement? It seems to have a lot of noise! ... but even if you are using a not JPG version, the JPG compression artifacts shows that the original image should have some kind of noise on it.

Ah, OK. Yes, this could be the issue. No problem ;)

I'm not sure what you've used to create the 50% grey, but there's some variation in your grey values which is causing the displacement issues you're seeing. If you've saved it as a jpeg, which it looks like you have, then it's corrupted your colours as you have chunked data, visible as squares if you select a very narrow range of colours in your image editor. You need to save as a png or other lossless format.

Try this one out instead http://www.mediafire.com/file/tnq3vy7nai5ylqv/displacement.png

BTW apparently octane likes displacements in 16 bit then you get smoother transitions where there are gradients etc.

I'm working on an underwater scene. I have only a few objects - the plane of the sea floor and the submarine. I want to add displacement to the seabed. But whatever I tried to do in this direction, I can not do anything. I open the demo scene with the displacement and everything works fine. But if I import this scene into my own scene, nothing happens again.
Well, i found solution - just a question related to scale of textures. My sea floor model 1km in radius. In this regard UV map created huge scale for textures.
