Questions about Fiberfx + Octane

I'm having trouble finding the sample content that was put out when Octane started supporting Fiberfx, thus, I have some questions:

1) Where can I find the sample content for Fiberfx usage in Octane?

2) Is it possible to give a single fiber multiple colors using a gradient or something else?

3) Can fibers be flat? I'm trying to emulate some implied-detail colored feathers but am finding that altering the width yields rounded out fiber shapes.

Hi,

This is a link to download some of my FiberFX test scenes. Hope this helps.
https://render.otoy.com/plugindownloads ... Scenes.rar

There is a node "Octane W Coord" that can help to shade the fibers, returning a gray scale texture from 0 (in the root) to 1 (in the tip). There is a sample scene "hair_sphere_W_shading" with this workflow. Sorry, currently the fibers only can be cylinders.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks for the info!

I still have a few pieces of the puzzle to put together but I'll get it sorted out.

Juanjgon,

Thanks for the sample scenes but I'm missing some images and it keeps asking for NodeHandler Input? Even without those things some scenes will load and display the fibers in Open GL but then when I open IPR or do an F9 nothing renders but the base geo. I looked in the plugin options and the editor options but didn't see anything to enable fibers. What am I missing?

Hi,

What version of LightWave and the plugin are you using? Here all these scenes work fine, but you are right, at least one texture is missing in the .rar file. I've attached it in this post.

Anyway, even without the textures, the scenes should render the fibers without problems. Be aware that the FiberFX feature only works in LightWave 2015 (and of course only using the 2015 plugin version), perhaps this is the problem.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks, 2015 was the issue. Didn't realize that was the only version it worked with.

Yes, sorry. The LightWave SDK API to support the FiberFX from external render engines was introduced in the 2015 version. It is impossible to get the fibers information in the earlier LightWave versions.

Thanks,
