Render animations in an animation file (AVI, QT, etc,) is not supported currently (this is a limitation of the LW SDK AFAIK). You need to save the individual animation frames and later use a video tool (or the Lightwave itself, using this frames as an animated background texture) to load the frames and save an animation file.

You only need to set the frame range in the rendering options, setup a file name and file format for the images and press F10

And if you don't have a program to put the images into an animation format, use the backdrop capabilities to do it.
Load the sequence into the background; set your camera size to the same as the pics; set up your movie settings and hit f10. (Using the lw renderer.)
i7-4770K, 32gb ram, windows 8.1, GTX Titan and gt 620 for display
