Any way to fake a gradient?

This is ripping my knitting (sorry it's a Scottish phrase meaning driving my nuts).

I have a few textures that I'm trying to convert, and I really need to use gradients. Is there any way at all I can fake a gradient? using the distance from something to something else for example?

Going bananas here. Alternatively, when are we going to see gradients appear?

Sorry, currently Octane API doesn't have the gradient node. I hope to see it soon inside the API to allow plugin to have it.
