Lightwave Octane X plugin working for Mac Studio?

Hello, I just bought a Mac Studio and it's doing lots of lovely things for me. I'm still using my PC's for LightWave rendering with RTX 3080's so it's not a big deal if I can't use Octane with it. But I did try just for fun. Not so fun because I couldn't get it to work. The OS is 13.2.1 with M1 Ultra. I'm assuming there is a good reason why it won't work, but I would appreciate it if someone could explain it to me.

Thanks! --Hal

This is the second time in a few weeks I come here to ask a simple question and get zero replies. Not much point in coming here anymore, is there?

Sorry, there is no updated LightWave plugin for macOS that supports the M1 chips. Even before the current EOL status, it was impossible to compile the plugin for these new machines due to problems with the LightWave SDK. The plugin simply didn't work, not sure why, but the crashes came from the SDK and well, without any support from NewTek there is nothing else I can do.

A bit of research on this forum is showing that the latest released version for LW on Macs was PR11, which is only running up to MacOS version Big Sur and Cinema release 26/S26. I guess your new Mac Studio is running Monterey or Ventura, so this version will not run on this MacOS. For what I can see, the current EOL tribute build is Windows only... Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Unfortunately, LW is going to miss any future support for Octane. As it seems, it is not to be developed any further by it's new scandinavian owner company. The plugin developer (great guy!) created this as a sort of perpetuous legacy version for the remaining LW community using Octane. I was a Lightwaver for over 15 years, but changed over to Cinema 4D a few years ago seeing this development ahead and because LW in the last years was increasingly suffering from weak Mac support (especially concering plugins). Cheers Markus
