vertex displacement with particle paint

hi - I have a landscape that needs a crazy amount of small rocks on the surface - the vertex disp. material works great, but since it moves the mesh upwards at render time, I have to move the replicator up to have the rocks visible - the problem is the disp. moves the surface up at different amounts of course - but the replicator cannot follow that so I end up with either hidden rocks or floating rocks - is there anyway to bake the displacement into the geo so I can paint on that surface instead? or is there a way to drive the offset of the replicator with the disp. texture?

I don't think is possible - sorry. I think you would need to do this in Modo rather than the plugin (unsure if even that is possible).

Thanks
