Proxies workflow

I have two requests regarding the use of proxies in modo. See attached image

To make it work together with modo proxies, I am having to add an empty mesh as a container for the Octane Proxy.

Request 1: Can you add the Proxy Filename link also to the modo proxy objects? Is this possible?
this would make the workflow much simpler.

Request 2: it seems that the Proxy Filename field does not take into account the Path Aliases from modo.
If I change the location of the path alias, the name here stays the same and I have to update each octane proxy location manually.
Can this be fixed?

thanks!

I have one more request:
would it be possible for Octane to render modo proxies directly as well?

I am bumping this one again.

It would be great if we could have this option.
Do you think this would be possible?
thanks ,

Agreed - although perhaps an even better workflow would be to have a separate item called an Octane Proxy (which specifies the filename of an ORBX).

Filenames are used throughout the plugin, and none of them support the Modo Path Alias - so this needs to be implemented across the plugin. Which specific pathalias name are you changing?

You can render Modo Proxies if you turn on the Render Cache in the Kernel->Settings panel. I suggest using the Render Cache with caution, as there are still some outstanding issues with it that have been bugged with Foundry. Support for Modo Proxies is not viable without the Render Cache enabled.

Thanks for the suggestions.

i'd also like to be able to link the Octane proxy to the MODO one. 3 reasons:

1. the MODO proxy (deferred mesh) has a preview mesh and it's a big time saver not to have to make my own.
2. i'm forced to move deferred meshes in Item mode so the preview mesh is always in the right place.
3. sometimes i need to render the identical scene using the MODO renderer and if the 2 proxies are the same then i can just switch engine and render.

hope this can be implemented as it's essential for a more efficient Proxy workflow.

hi, is there any progress with this?

also, is there any way that Octane can read a MODO deferred mesh and render it, so we don't need to create both a MODO deferred mesh and an OCtane proxy?

There has not been any progress, as I am still working on the Octane 2020.2 features, so it will be some time before I can look at this.

I believe that Deferred Meshes do render in the plugin, and get loaded into the "Non-Live" Octane Mesh item, along with all other static geometry in the scene, so won't be reloaded each frame when rendering an animation unless you tick Kernel->Animation->Reload Non-Live Meshes When Scrubbing the Timeline.

I hope that helps.

Thanks

thanks for the reply Paul.

rendering Deferred Meshes directly would be ideal but Octane isn't rendering the deferred mesh correctly for me. Some parts are rendering OK and others are not visible, and the rendered look is influenced by the 'GL Type' setting in the Deferred Mesh. this should only affect OpenGL rendering whereas Octane will render the box view (and render the mesh as boxes) if this is selected.

I can send an example privately if needed.
