Scene crashes because of RAM

I am having trouble with an scene. The file is 5.3 million polys (normally I have no trouble with those numbers...) and keeps crashing when rendering, or even it doesn't load into Octane because of insufficient RAM >maximum vertices issue.

I have 32GB of RAM in my computer and 8GB in the graphics card, but only opening the file in MODO it already uses 25GB of RAM!! so when i press render it mostly goes beyond the 32GB and crashes...

It's strange that I have rendered heavier files before Up to 10 million polygons with less issues, how can that be? It is a scene with a lot of different textures, could that be the difference? I have the feeling the file somehow got corrupted...

Any Ideas?

Yes, perhaps there is something amiss with the .LXO.

If you want to render with the smallest memory footprint with the plugin, turn Live Geometry Update ON for all meshes, and reduce the Max Vertices in your preferences to the size of the largest mesh item.

Thanks for the fast reply!

There seems to be a problem indeed with the .lxo

I changed the maximum vertices to about 3 million, a little more than the heaviest mesh, I get a notification that there are too many vertices but I can still render and my RAM usage Halved. Thanks!

If you get the "Too many vertices" message, then the plugin has not loaded some vertices. Make sure all Modo Mesh items have Live Geometry Update enabled, and if you are still getting the message, increase the Max Vertices.
