Can Octane render partial curves?

Hey Paul, curves have a start and end % so MODO can render partial curves, or animated growing curves (like growing vines or blood vessels). Is there any way for Octane to do this as well? I tried clicking 'use render cache' but that didn't work. It's crucial for a project I'm rendering. V-ray can do it..so it should be possible I suppose.

Can you post an LXO file demonstrating this issue pls?

Thanks

Paul

Hey Paul - sure below is a link to an lxo. It's just a curve (with a curve rebuild mop to make it smooth in Octane). On the curve item properties you will notice 'curve start' and 'curve end' values, along with radius. These are often animated for effects like growing blood vessels, lines, etc. MODO and V-Ray render these fine...Octane always renders curve start 0% and curve end 100%.

In the test scene 'curve end' is at 50%

Hi Greg

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this. Curve Start and End is not supported by the plugin, as Octane does not allow for the trimming of a hair strand object.

No worries - maybe Foundry will provide a method with the API they're working on for ProRender.

Here's another video tut. if you want to copy to the video thread at the top, btw. I'll have some more out soon.

Awesome - thanks Greg, much appreciated. I have added your video to the Modo plugin video tutorials thread.
