This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender 2022 for Modo - TEST and STABLE release.

SOLUTIONS TO COMMON ISSUES

1) Make sure your NVIDIA drivers are up to date.

2) Refer to the Troubleshooting section of the manual at https://docs.otoy.com/ModoH/ModoPluginManual.htm#Modo/Troubleshooting.htm

3) Cuda error 999 - failed to load shader code: Multiple definition of 'cpSptStatistics' in 'cuda_teturemode' means that your plugin version is too old for the Nvidia drivers that are installed, so update to the latest version of the plugin.

4) The Octane Greyscale Vertex Attribute is not working for a mesh : make sure Kernel->Render Cache is disabled, and Live Geometry is enabled and Load Cage is disabled for the mesh.

5) How do I copy Meshes between Modo scenes? Please see https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=75794&p=389534

Modo Version
Windows : Modo15 and Modo16 on Window 7, 8 or 10 64bit
OSX : Modo15 and Modo16 on macOS 12.3.1 and newer, and only on Apple Silicon
Linux : Modo15 and Modo16 on 64bit Linux

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 452 or higher on Windows, 450 or higher on Linux.

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release from the Octane Standalone installer which matches the exact Octane version of the plugin you are using.

Support Issues
If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Modo version
- OctaneRender for Modo version (ie. 2.0.10.16)
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version

Prior to reporting issues, please try Modo->System->Open User Folder->Shutdown Modo->then delete the MODO[version].CFG file and restart Modo.

The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So pls provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Current STABLE build (Octane 2022.1.1)

IMPORTANT: Scenes saved with this version of the plugin are unlikely to open with the correct Octane settings when opened with previous Octane versions (ie. 2021.1.5) of the plugin. So make back-ups of your .LXO files accordingly.

2022.1.1.190 (7-Apr-2023)
- Compiled with Octane 2022.1.1
- Fixed issue where Octane Override image Border Modes were not being set correctly when a Modo Image Texture Locator was plugged into the image node
- Stopped the plugin from turning OFF Show Item Relationships in the Schematic when creating an Octane Override
- Fixed a number of issues related to Material Import and Export (to the LocalDb). These functions should now work as expected.
- Added Cuvature Visibility to the Octane tab of Volume items
- Resolved windowing ordering issue on macOS
- Added a Clay Mode selector on the Viewport toolbar
- Suppressed the Modo warning "The item XXX is referenced by other items" when changing a material type
- Fixed crash that resulted when trying to add a Channel Pick or Channel Merge node to the schematic
- Added additional information to the error popup that happens when you try to connect two incompatible pins in the schematic
- EXPERIMENTAL: Added command 'octane.unfold' to unfold the currently selected schematic node and all it's children. Does not work if more than one schematic node is selected, or if the select the node is not a channel modifier
- EXPERIMENTAL: Added "Add Dynamic Pin Channel" to the Composite Output AOV node to add up to an additional 10 input nodes
- NOTE: Clicking "Replace As Clip" on an image file which is used in an Octane Override will break the link between that clips Filename and the Octane Image Node. This issue has been reported as a Modo bug to Foundry
- The Universal Camera "Aperture Roundness" and "Aperture Rotation" are now converted more accurately to the Universal camera (which uses different units for these pins than the Thin Lens camera). I was still unable to get the settings to match, so more work may be required on this.

2022.1.0.189 (2-Dec-2022)
- Compiled with Octane 2022.1
- Incorporated the Octane 2022.1 RC 2, 3 and 4 changes into the plugin
- Fixed issue where the spotlights were not refreshing when the Modo Spotlight Intensity was updated
- Fixed incorrect labels for Render Passes, Normal (smooth) and (shading)
- Fixed issue which caused a lockup when clicking on the Modo Render window when mpath is rendering
- Texture layers in the Shader Tree are now ignored if Enabled is ON but Render is OFF
- Fixed a number of minor issues with importing materials from the local and live db's

2022.1.0.188 (19-Aug-2022) - Windows-only builds available. Please msg me if you need a macOS or Linux build

- Added the Standard Surface Material and Standard Volume Medium nodes
- Added the new Octane 2022.1 Crytomatte passes. These are not present on the old Render Passes node, so the new passes are not available from the Render Passes->Cryptomatte tab, but can instead be accessed via the Cryptomatte AOV node which plugs into the Kernel->Render AOV Group node.
- Implemented the Octane 2022.1 change "Image nodes now have a Border mode for U and V separately."
- Fixed issue where Undo'ing after an invalid schematic pin connection to an Octane node would not work
- Added Textures->Fields nodes
- Added C4D noise nodes

- Modo Principled Materials are now converted to Octane Universal Material nodes

Hi - I have updated the Windows installers at the top of this thread to fix this issue. If anyone is on macOS or Linux and needs the fix, please let me know.

Yes, it is supported. I just haven't done an Octane 2022.1 test build with it. Happy to provide an installer if you would like to try the Octane 2022.1 build.

Paul,

Octane Noise texture doesn't seem to be displaying the options in the left hand panel. Can you confirm this please.
Modo 15.1v2 and latest Octane for Modo.

that's great news - yes would absolutely like to try the new build

i currently export to the standalone to do the caustics so would be a big time saver to have the Photon kernel in MODO

thank you Paul - so much better not having to export to do caustics :)

a couple of questions:

1. 2 or 3 times now installing the new plugin has broken my Octane config (my own config) - i don't think anything has changed so for future reference is there something i need to do to not have to remake the layout?

2. i tried to export some Octane materials from MODO to use in Archicad but neither of the formats available when exporting seem to work. Depending on which database i choose AC either asks for a .ocm file or a .orbx file. AFAICT i can't export .ocm from MODO and the .orbx that i exported gives this error message when i try to import into the AC scene
