Modo 15 won't start anymore, if the Plugin (V171) is active. I already deleted config files, and reinstalled the plugin. Is there a quick fix to this?


We had this same issue at our studio - opened up MODO 15 this morning and couldn't get past the splash screen due to an octane pop-up not responding. We ended up installing the latest Octane Standalone (2020.2.4), uninstalled all Octane MODO plugins, then reinstalled the stable 171 version and that seems to have worked.

Hi - these appear to be general Octane questions. May I suggest posting them in the Octane Standalone 2020.2.3 release thread, and include an ORBX which illustrates the issues, and the OTOY support techs can then response.

These issues are specifically pertaining to the MODO version of Octane. They have been tested in other plugins and seem to work fine. There is an issue in MODO Octane with vertex maps working used as an amount for a Mix Material with "nested dielectrics" checked on, happens every time. It only selects one of the colors being mixed and goes with it, ignoring the other mix. There is also an issue with displacement not working correctly in MODO. I cannot get the mid-level to remain static, it always seems to move a little, which really kills any thin meshes, such as glass bottles. I have used the exact same displacement maps in Cinema4D Octane and it works just fine. Let me know if you need any examples and I can create a few - can't show exactly what I've got due to client restrictions.

Sorry for pretty much posting the same thing twice, but these couple issues are limiting our options quite a bit for a couple of our clients. Thank you!

I have updated the installers at the top of this thread with:

2020.2.4.173
- Built with Octane 2020.2.4
- Fixed issue where the plugin would freeze Modo15 on startup

I found two issues: Changing from single layer exr to multilayer exr triggers a restart of the render.

Also my beloved command octane.renderandsave does not work anymore. If i add a filepath modo crashes. This is a major issue for me, because my batch render script relies on this command. A quick fix would be great!

Can you post some steps? I tried the following and its not restarting here

1. Create new scene with the cube and started rendering.
2. Click save image, save format = EXR 32 bit, and change layers from single to multi-layer

The octane.renderAndSave command was modified for Octane 2020.2 (plugin version 2020.2.0.165 from the 10-Feb-2021) and did not work correctly from there onward. The last version it worked was 2020.1.5.163 (from 18-Sep-2020). I can take a look at fixing it, however I would prefer to put through the fix in the Octane 2021.1 stream of the plugin.

Hi Paul,

thank you for answering so quickly! For this project i worked around by saving out Orbx files and then batch render them in Standalone. However there is a project coming up in the next 2-3 Week where this Workflow would probably don't work. It would be cool if you take a look at it. Otherwise i have to go back to 163.
