Hi all

This is our first public release of Octane X Standalone for Big Sur and includes support for AMD Polaris, Vega, Navi as well as Intel GPUs, along with full OSL support.

At the moment we have only the Studio standalone version to share, but we will add Enterprise as soon as we can, as well as the render node.

Important notes:

  • This build will only work on Big Sur and newer. Please also ensure you are running the very latest version of Big Sur, this is very important.
  • Please note that this release is marked "internal" because it is not code signed or notarized. It should work just fine, but if you have any issues opening and running Octane, the workaround is to right click, then click open.
  • This build should still be considered an experimental build. Please be careful not to use this for important production work.
  • We are currently aware of two significant issues. One is a hang that triggers in a very specific situation. The other is that on the newest MacBook Pro 2020 (with the IceLake processor), Octane is currently not able to render. We welcome any other feedback, and thank you in advance for this.

Changes since PR3

  • Make the numeric boxes in the node inspector more robust.
  • Workaround for a compiler issue in material preview
  • Fixed missing application of the max. speed parameter to motion vector AOVs
  • Fixed OSL projection
  • Fixed vertex displacement
  • Fixed motion blur on vertex displaced objects
  • Fixed AI Light updating issue
  • Fixed a crash when rendering a mix material containing a volume medium

So, the Big Sur update is here - is there an ETA on enterprise? Or can enterprise subs use the Studio version for the time being? I would like to get onto Big Sur as soon as possible!

It take a while to build each tier, Enterprise is coming next, then plug-in SDK for the dcc plugins and if all is done then prime/demo

Just to confirm, does it mean that PR3 won't work under Big Sur ?

Yes confirmed, PR3 is Catalina only.

Well it works pretty well so far! Only thing is that PMC crashes instantly with my Radeon VII eGPU. Doesn't matter the scene, just add a render target, change kernel to PMC, crashes. PMC does still work on the Intel iGPU, but that is ...

Anyways, it doesn't work with both enabled either, if the VII is in the mix it crashes.

There's not yet any C4D-PR4 plugin build for BIG SUR. You should be using a Catalina build, no surprising to get crashes because of this. It will not work with that, wait for a proper Big Sur C4D build
