OctaneRender™ 2018.1 RC2

Hi all

We have fixed many issues in RC1 and while there are a few more things to straighten out, we want to make this release to fix the bigger problems we have fixed so far.

Reminder: 2018.1 RC2 will only be available for customers with a version 4 license for a limited time. To try 2018.1 RC2 you need to upgrade your version 3 license to a version 4 license. This can be done for free via our web shop: https://render.otoy.com/shop/upgrade.php.

Changes since OctaneRender 2018.1 RC1:

  • fixed a couple of Cryptomatte crashes
  • fixed geometry getting reprocessed when the camera is deleted
  • fixed a couple of issues with gizmos and added gizmo support for Vectron
  • fixed HDR image load crash when x-direction is flipped
  • fixed incorrect render when changing materials for vectron nodes.
  • fixed volume SDF not working with specular material or medium
  • fixed VDB exporter crash.
  • fixed banding in larger scales of SDFs.
  • added support for vertex attributes at polygon (face) level, vertex (point) level and polygon-vertex level.
  • improved SDF tracing speed when there is scaling in the instance
  • fixed some Alembic vertex attributes not loading properly
  • fixed vectron and volume SDF normals when an instance is rotated and/or scaled
  • reduced memory usage of vertex attributes
  • fixed rendering of second color vertex attribute if a mesh contains also float vertex attributes.
  • increase the max seeding samples for Cryptomatte to avoid getting black pixels on soft edges.
  • fix possible crash when using a "mapper" input for a string input parameter in an OSL shader.
  • added a version of the Cryptomatte passes by node, which differentiates between distinct material nodes. Beware: if the scene topology changes, then IDs for duplicated material names would change unpredictably.

I hope this will fix 2018.1 3ds max octane bugs viewtopic.php?f=80&t=70135&start=40
Since RC7 no other build worked at all. Getting old.
1. it crashes max during scene eval. RC7 works ok
2. Phoenix is not rendered. RC7 renders it fine
3. Sloe eval with multiple phoenix grids (happens in RC7. Was reported to you 10 times)

Hi,

I still got the same issue when trying to render my scene. When I try to render my render-target it crashes immediately and says 'OctaneRender 2018.1 RC2 Standalone has stopped working'.
The sample file it send a couple of weeks ago stills shows this problem. If you want i can send it again.

Just noting I do not see any performance improvement with the Vectron, still has same very high processing demand on the renderer, chokes the system pretty bad.

You know, if it will always be a slower render thing, hey, it is what it is then...I think it is great! :P

Hi Guys,

I checked cryptomatte with a lot scenes and computers:

*For preview is better is not crashing anymore when we try to preview the pass.
*Crashing when we try to save EXR
*Crashing when we render on batcth render
*Black dots after settings changed doesn't fixed then.

The only way to get working and save is, when I have only the instance cryptomatte , and everything is working, is definitely a problem with the other information when we are saving the output.

OBJ Id version of the cryptomatte is much better but as mentioned still crashing when we save out the output.

Cheers,
JO

Hi!
Thank you for the update.
But Octane crashes when I try to render my .abc file.... (see attached)
I wanted to try if the Vertex Color attribute would work with this new update. This file was working in the previous version.
Thanks

Hi Otoy,
why is my GPU rendering when it is not enabled in octane? It happens when out of core is used. Thanks

Do you have a scene which can reproduce this problem?
