Hi haknslash,
weird, have you try to export an orbx to Standalone v3 alpha 4 via max plugin 2.24.1?
Do you have the same behavior?

Hi all,

I'm just now trying out the new 3.0 alpha and it seems my 3 GTX 780 Ti's fail every single time I try a project, no matter how complex or simple. I've even tried creating just a simple box, sphere, cylinder geometry test with 3DS Max. I export to OBJ format and within a minute or so, one of my cards will fail in 3.00 alpha 1 and then shortly after the rest of my cards fail. The viewport just locks up and will not move. I have no problems with the same project file(s) in 2.24.1 (standalone or 3DS Max plugin).

Any ideas?

Hello, I would definitely try the project in 3.4 to rule out something from the 3.1 release. But if this move does not resolve, post your findings in the Alpha 4 (3.4 as I'm calling it) thread. There is a phenomenon presently where crashes and freezes are occurring with the OR 3 build on multi GPU rigs, specifically those that have GPUs connected to the system via a PCI link of 1x, as opposed to 16x. Read the Alpha 4 post and you will see users (including myself) addressing our findings there.

A key thing is, you have an issue occurring on OR3 that does not occur on V2. So let us know any findings as you try other releases.

Best,

For anyone out the wanting to use fumeFX 4 VDB's with octane, you need to write "Smoke" where it says density and "FireFuel" where is says temperature in the volume loader. and remember it has to have CAPITAL letter on the "S" and "F", otherwise it doesn't work!!!!
Not gonne tell you how long it took me to figure that one out.

Anyways, great job to all@otoy, and I really look forward to use a version that supports adaptive grids!! (so we can render some animations!!)

Could you clarify this a bit? I'm trying to get a fume sim into Octane but it throws an error.
There are probably some standards a volume has to adhere to, in order to load properly.. Can't find any info on that...

You don't have to do this with alpha 4, just use the dropdowns and choose which grid you want for the three slots.
