Thought I would continue our conversation here rather than the 2020.1 release thread. Did you manage to get the fog scattering to work mate?
After what was mentioned by Wallace in the 2020.1 thread, I was left baffled. I tried to replicate what he mentioned regards the 'Step Length' but just couldnt get it too look right. Maybe im just overlooking something.

It looks like it worked for me.
I just set the Volume Step Lenght to some higher vale.
Please try this scene:
Plane_Box_Fog.blend

The Box works fine now.

P.S.
I think Volume Shadow Step Length is working with OpenVDBs only, so it doesn't really matter in this case.
