Question about OC for Blender 2.8

Which version of Octane we will be using when the OC for Blender 2.8 is released? Because of the Otoy's All-access and free-tier announcement, if its Octane 2018.x/2019.x, will perpetual license users get access to the OC for Blender 2.8 or have to pay the subscription fee monthly? Please don't tell me 2.79 is the end of v4 license users

Hi,

not sure right now.

We're working on implementing Octane in Blender 2.8 right now.

It's important to still support Blender 2.79, because it's very stable and productive, so we'll see Octane 2019.1 for 2.79 for sure.

Blender 2.8 implementation is totally different than 2.79 (basically it was required to start from scratch) and we need to evaluate if V4 will be implemented, or if there will be support for 2018 and 2019 only.

I'll keep you updated!

Thanks!

Here's one more good reason for an Octane version of Blender 2.8:

3Dconnexion's SpaceNavigator, and possibly other similar products, don't work with Blender 2.79 (3D (the device can't pan/tilt).

And I can't imagine how people navigate through a scene without a 3D mouse, especially for animation...

It works perfectly with Blender 2.8.

I'll second the idea to have v4 for Blender 2.8 for perpetual license holders, please don't force subscription :-)

Hi Brent!

Octane 2018 for Blender 2.8 will come out first. Octane 4 for Blender 2.8 will be released later. ;)

Just curious how its going ? any date for a beta release insight yet?
2.8 is my favorite version of blender now for a while already so getting octane in would be great.

We're working on it and the target is to release the new version before the official 2.8 is out (which should be in July).

I've published a sneak peek here (more to come):

I'm switching to Blender 2.8 (leaving Autodesk Maya and modo for good). I'm an hobbyist so subscription is a big NEVER and would like to upgrade my V2 licence to last version, but I still don't undertsand all versions and subscription it not clear and I can't find any clear explaination on the website, like this is some kind of secret that it will go all subscription, and trying to hide it by calling it 2018 or something else. Can someone confirm this:
-V4 is the last perpetual version and will eventually be obsolete - ok it will be compatible with Blender V2.8 but what about V2.81 et later ?
-2018 is in fact V5 but only subscription
-2019 is in fact V6 and only subscription

All users owning Octane V3 can upgrade to V4 for free.

There's no official way to upgrade from V2. In this specific case, it is necessary to purchase an OctaneRender 4 Enterprise DCC/All-Access Bundle:

https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/purchase/

With that you get Octane 4 Standalone (perpetual) and full access to the DCC plugins (including Blender).

And also:

- Additional Render Slave Node License (also compatible with Deadline)
- ORC subscription (Octane Render Cloud)
- Access to all future OctaneRender Enterprise updates and features including NVLink (OctaneRender 2018.1) and full Vulkan-RTX hardware acceleration (OctaneRender 2019).

The price is $699 for 12 months or $899 for 24 months.

Being an Octane 2.0 owner, my advice is to contact OTOY directly and ask if there's some kind of discount in your case.

About Octane for Blender 2.8, it's in development and for sure there will be an Octane 4 integration (Octane 4 has been fully mainteined and it's receiving great attention, with new builds released regularly).

About Blender 2.81 is maybe to soon to say for sure, but I would say that yes, it should be in the plans. I'll let you know.

Thanks!
