Hey Lino,

Do you have a date for when these videos might be ready now that 4 has landed?

A.I. Light and Render Layers would be top of the list for me (selfishly)...

And fog! I've never been able to get it to work the way I want with near objects clear and far objects shrouded in mist - despite all the C4d tutorials...

Bump.

...sorry to be a pain. Render Layers are just mind-boggling.

My use-case here is that I have a scene with 2 objects.

1 is geometry with a photo texture projected to it. 1 is geometry with a high-res PBR texture.

The high-res object is just too clean and sharp against the other, so I want to dull it down/blur it/lens blur/desecrate it a little... whatever works.

Ideally, I'd separate the object in the compositor and drop a blur node between the object and a combined output. Better still, I'd be able to apply it in the viewport so I could get it right. I guess it's more likely that I'll need to output separate passes and do it in post, but...

I just can't work out the configuration. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take look at the layers setup here:
new render layers.jpg

Before you can use it like in the picture above you need to enable "Use Blender Built-in Render Layer" option in add-on preferences window.

This has got me somewhere - thanks a lot.

It's still really confusing. How do I now get shadow passes in the same set up? What is the 'Octane render layers(Global)' tab for? Why when I select 'Hide from camera' on a layer, it hides the other layer? etc. etc.

Did you check the manual?
https://docs.otoy.com/BlenderH/BlenderP ... Layers.htm

I've shown you the second method. It's good to know both because sometimes the old method is more flexible for simple renders. The manual describes the old method and describes the difference between modes and shadow passes.

Hi!

The videos are not available yet.

We have different versions of the Octane plugin (V4, V2018 and upcoming 2.8 implementations of Octane 2018 and Octane 2019), which means everything needs to be organized accordingly.

Meanwhile, for any question you may have, you can post in this very same forum or on the Octane for Blender dedicated Facebook page:

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

Bit off topic. Will there be a version of V4 for Blender 2.8 once released or will current V4 users have to sign-up for subscription to continue to use Octane with contemporary versions of Blender?
