Add Light

Hey.
I've seen that it's very quick and easy to create lights in Cinema4D. With one click they are already set up. Especially the targetted light option is nice. In Blender I always have to create everything manually. Maybe you can add a section to the "Add" popup or have a section in the toolbar where Octane specific features are included (this is how Renderman handled it).
This is the popup of Cinema4D that I'm refering to (btw. it should be "Targeted" with just one "t").
Cheers,
Andreas

Here is a nice addon that could be compared to C4D menu you are referring to.

Hey.
I've already tried this one out, but it just allows the creation of a Point Mesh Light. Can't see any Area Light options there. But maybe I have overseen something.
Cheers,
Andreas

It has only point light option. You can add your own options if you are not afraid to code a bit

Hey.
I'm not afraid. But for one I would not want to mess with somebody elses code and besides that, my Python skills are pretty much non-existent. I can imagine, that for a trained programmer this is a quick thing. So maybe the guys at OTOY have a few minutes to create this.
Cheers,
Andreas

For sure BlenderOctane needs a fastest way to add specific light types to the scene.
Something maybe not anyone is aware about is that you can use a Blender Area Light as an Octane Area Light.
All you need to do is to activate Use Nodes for the light and attach a Diffuse shader+Emission.
Point and Directional Lights can only be used as Toon Lights for now.
The point is in Octane all lights are basically emissive geometry, so "Lights" (in the classic term 3D software users know them) need to be somehow implemented in some diffrent way in each software.
We'll work on some more direct way to create ready to use Octane Lights for sure.

Hi Lino,
It would be cool if light nodes for the light were generated automatically.
btw. if you turn off the light in outliner it still visible in reflections and generates emission.

Yeah, this is all I want/need. Creating the nodes for the light each time is annoying. Just put everything that is a bit tedious in that panel. With time it can be expanded with more features.
Here's the panel that Renderman had in its addon. Plain and simple.
Cheerio,
Andreas
