That makes sense. Multi-UV map support is possible in other plugins (Octane, if I am not mistaken, can natively support up to 3 UV maps). The only thing that will hold Multi-UV support back would be - as it is in all cases - based on the limitations of the host application (Blender in this instance). I will look into this as best I can to gauge feasibility. Based on user demand, this will determine how highly this is prioritized on any future roadmap.

Hi Azen,
Thank you for looking into it.
There should be no limitations from Blender side of things. To me it seems that multi UV support is just not added to Octane plugin, cause whoever programmed it didn't get to that part YET or whatever the reason was. The Octane UV node is there and is called "Octane UV projection". It just doesn't have the UV's listed to select from. So its kind of halfly done already.

I'll add 2 screenshots for you to explain better. (one from Cycles and one from Octane)

For my studio this is the highest priority thing and we can't use Octane for Blender because of it.

Without it Blender plugin is not usable in year 2017.

It's a different thing. UDIM is a method of unwraping the mesh (like PTEX is). We are talking about multiple sets of UV coordinates per model.

Hi,

Thank you for that breakdown. Initial indications seem to suggest that this feature should be feasible for Blender, as you say.

Could you let us know whether this functionality will be possible in the Blender plugin at all? viewtopic.php?f=114&t=60966

Also could we get an update on when the next stable release of Blender plugin will arrive? I am a subscription based user and I have not been able to try any of the new features of 3.06 since the latest version available on the download page is only 3.05.3

could I get an answer on this please? :)

Hi,

Regarding multiple Blender instances, the issue is with running multiple Octane Server instances. Two independent Octane Server instances cannot be run concurrently on the same machine, since the two instances will clash causing the latter instance to terminate. The nature of Blender's Open Source Licenses results in Octane code having to be encapsulated into an external program (aka Octane Server) - this is a distinctive integration from all of the other plugins. As things stand, the only way around this is via Network Rendering.

Regarding the OctaneVR release for 3.06 - I do not have an exact date at the moment. This should be one of the first things that gets done when we have a roadmap fully resolved.

Hi Azen,

Based on your initial assessment; how long do you think it will be until we see any software updates or improvements? What will be your priorities of fixes or features?

Thanks

Hi,

Currently, integrating Octane 3.06 into Blender is substantially more complex compared to other plugins. Among other things, these 3.06 related issues are part of why there is currently no test build for the 3.06 plugin on Linux. A lot of the user-reported bugs and usability issues are relatively easy to resolve, once we get the 3.06 engine compatibility issues out of the way.

The first priority would be identifying the compatibility issues with Blender and Octane 3.06. From there, we would be able to build an OctaneVR version of the Blender integration. From there, attention will shift to the list of requests (and any remaining bugs - resolution of 3.06 compatibility should resolve a lot of them on its own).
